Cassette Beasts

Create the ultimate playlist of catchy creatures.

Classic monster-collecting RPGs get a groovy remaster in Cassette Beasts. As the newest castaway in a mysterious land, you’ll catch creatures by recording them with your tape player, then transform into them in battle – fangs, claws and all. Slap stickers on your tapes to give creatures extra powers or combine beasts to create wild new forms. Nice jam!

What we love: Remixing monsters. Transform into a beast, then fuse with your partner’s creature to form a head-spinning hybrid. Blend flowery big cat Dandylion with red-hot pooch Pombomb, for instance, to get a Dandybomb that can leech an enemy’s health and blast it with fire.

Explore scenic Harbourtown or head to the wilds to find beasts to capture.

Quick tip: Feeling stuck? A handful of monsters grant your hero a helpful permanent ability once caught – like smashing through cracked rocks (from recording a Bulletino) or swimming (from a Diveal or Scubalrus). Keep an eye out for special beasts!

Meet the creator: Cassette Beasts’ seaside setting was inspired by the Brighton, UK, home base of indie developer Bytten Studio. The three-person team – Tom Coxon and brothers Jay and Joel Baylis – set out to fuse a Japanese–style monster-collecting RPG with their own British sense of humour.
