  • šŸŖ¾šŸ”„ Wildfires in the EU are getting longer and more intense.    Despite much-needed intermittent rain last year, leading to less land burnt than in 2023, the total of 383 thousand hectares still exceeded the 17-year average.   Countries like Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain were hit hardest, while Ukraine bore significant losses outside the EU, with most wildfires seen across the combat frontlines.    In 2025, our nature and vegetation continued to face these challenges. With extreme heatwaves adding fuel to the fire, urgency is needed.    So far, we have doubled our rescEU fleet and strengthened firefighting resources. Yet, firefighting alone isn't enough. We need proactive measures:    🌱 Integrated wildfire risk management  🌿 Nature-based solutions  🌲 Sustainable landscape management    šŸ“·Ā© European Union ā€“ Wildfire emergency in Chios, Greece. Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery, 23 June 2025

    • The Copernicus satellite image shows a large wildfire burning in a forested area, with thick smoke billowing into the sky and spreading over the land and water. The fire appears intense, with bright flames and scorched land visible among the smoke. The image captures the scale and severity of the wildfire, highlighting its impact on the landscape.
  • Making cities accessible is key to creating inclusive communities where everyone can thrive. Congratulations to the winning cities of the 2026 EU Access City Award:  šŸ„‡ Zaragoza, Spain has made streets, public transport, digital services and housing accessible for people with disabilities.  🄈 Valencia, Spain has implemented a data-driven approach that ensures people with disabilities can participate in urban life.  šŸ„‰ Rennes, France has upgraded streets, transport and cultural venues to make them accessible and welcoming for everyone. By prioritising accessibility, these cities are improving the quality of life for residents and visitors alike and setting an example for other cities across Europe. Their achievements inspire others to make accessibility a key part of urban planning and development. Learn more: https://europa.eu/!F3jQCB

  • 🚨 Illicit drugs like cocaine and synthetics are devastating mental health, causing overdoses, poisoning, psychosis, addiction and vulnerabilities like suicidal tendencies.     Our new Drugs Strategy and Action Plan prioritises mental health protection by:    šŸ”„ Better prevention, treatment and recovery under Healthier Together   šŸ”” European Union Drugs Agency alerts on new drugs and strong opioids   šŸ›”ļø Help to stop overdoses, poisoning and other risks    Together, we can protect mental health and save lives.

  • Europe needs a real single financial market. And we are making it happen.     Right now, EU markets are fragmented. In 2024, market capitalisation to GDP stood at 73% in the EU, while it was 270% in the US. That gap means fewer chances for Europeans to grow their savings and for businesses to access funding.     Our new package will:     šŸ‘‰ Make cross-border investing simpler and cheaper  šŸ‘‰ Remove barriers in trading, post-trading, and asset management  šŸ‘‰ Enable innovation with technologies like blockchain  šŸ‘‰ Strengthen supervision and cut complexity     A fully integrated EU capital market means better returns for savers, more funding for businesses, and is crucial in the green and digital transitions.     Toward unlocking opportunities for citizens and companies.     Here's how āž”ļø https://lnkd.in/ehjXbKpe

  • Unprecedented economic security threats demand unprecedented answers.     War in Ukraine, weaponised dependencies, and unfair tech competition are reshaping Europe’s economic security landscape.     We are launching a new approach to reducing strategic dependencies and securing Europe’s supply chains:     šŸ”¹ A strategic Economic Security framework that makes smarter, more coordinated use of EU tools to protect critical technologies, secure supply chains, attract safe investment and safeguard sensitive data.     šŸ”ø RESourceEU, the first concrete action under this approach, ensuring access to alternative sources of critical raw materials and semiconductors for European industry.     Economic security means working with trusted partners to tackle shared risks and reduce vulnerabilities.     Together, we will protect Europe’s ability to act, innovate, and compete globally.     More šŸ‘‰ https://lnkd.in/eVmvPTwi
