Homelessness Impacts All of Us.
2,734 people were homeless on the night of January 29th, 2024 in Albuquerque, a 109% increase from 2022. Over half of the unsheltered population reported that this was their first time on the streets. Since this is only a snapshot of the visibly unsheltered, advocates estimate the true number is much higher. AHCH alone serves over 5,000 people experiencing homelessness.
Nobody should have to choose between health care and homelessness. As the cost of living continues to climb, more and more New Mexicans are making the impossible and unjust choice between housing and healthcare. As we double down on our efforts to end the causes and consequences of homelessness, consider making that commitment with us.
At AHCH, We Care. It’s in the Name.
We care enough to provide outreach across Bernalillo County searching for and connecting people to the exceptional and compassionate care they deserve, especially on the days when it is too cold to feel your face. We care enough to continue to reach out and build trust with people who might not believe we are here for them and here to stay. We care enough to raise voices for structural solutions to not only help people exit homelessness but prevent them from ever falling in the first place.
We care, because we know that if we were in the same situation,
we would want somebody to care for us.
Will you be that person?
Join us as we work towards a world that is just and free of homelessness.
Give the gift of care today.

Monthly Giving
How do we meet the constant needs and unexpected crises that come AHCH’s way every month? We are fortunate to have a group of loyal contributors who make periodic gifts that carry AHCH and our patients through not only the needs we can predict, but the unforeseen circumstances that we can’t.
This steady support from our dedicated group of regular supporters is crucial—keeping us ready throughout the year to fulfill the always enduring and often unpredictable issues that arise.
Automatic giving is painless, easy, and saves you time! You can pre-select the amount and frequency that you would like us to draft your donation.
A few good reasons to consider joining:
- The satisfaction of knowing you are addressing both ongoing and unexpected needs every month.
- Recurring gifts have a larger impact, allowing AHCH to spend more dollars on lifesaving programs and less on marketing and donor acquisition.
- An easy, convenient, and cost-effective way for you to make an even more significant contribution.
- Documentation of your gift will appear each month on your credit card statement.
- An annual tax receipt will be sent each January, consolidating your gifts from the prior year.
Charitable Retirement Distributions
IRA owners age 70½ or over have the option to transfer up to $100,000 to charity tax-free each year. These transfers, known as qualified charitable distributions, offer eligible older Americans a great way to easily give to charity before the end of the year. Moreover, for those who are at least 72, these contributions count toward the IRA owner’s required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
AHCH makes it simple and convenient to continue to designate funds towards our mission of ending homelessness through compassionate health care and advocacy. Each distribution will be acknowledged with a receipt and a thank you letter that can be utilized for tax purposes.
For your ease and convenience AHCH’s tax information will be listed below:

In-Kind Donation Drives
Thank you for your interest in hosting a donation drive to support our patients. To see the current Critical Needs List, please click here. For more information about starting a donation drive or about certain items you wish to donate, please contact Karyl Weldon by email at kweldon@abqhch.org or by phone at 505-767-1178
Our patients face the unjust challenges of life in shelters, on the streets, and in temporary housing, while struggling to maintain their health. Among these challenges is acquiring basic necessities.
Items gathered in these drives can have a tremendous impact. Distributed by our doctors, nurses, and case managers, they not only improve the quality of care we deliver, but also help us develop and maintain the trusting relationships that are such an essential part of our work.
Gifts of Stock
As a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, AHCH is grateful to be considered for tax-deductible contributions through gifts of stock or shares transfer.
If this is something that you are interested in doing, please do not hesitate to contact AHCH Development Director, Sara Lucero at saralucero@abqhch.org for more information about the transfer process and account details.
Wills and Legacy Giving
At Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, we know how deeply people care for their families — and how powerful it is to care for your community, too. That’s why we’re partnering with FreeWill to offer a free estate-planning service, so you can plan ahead with ease, protect your loved ones, and even leave a lasting legacy if you choose.
Making a will isn’t just about what you leave behind. It’s about how you live today — with purpose, clarity, and care.
Start your will for free today and give your loved ones the gift of peace.

Donor-Advised Funds
As a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, AHCH is grateful to be considered for contributions through donor-advised funds. This is a convenient and effective way to support our patients and our work.
A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a philanthropic vehicle established at a public charity. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit and then recommend grants from the fund over time. One way to think about a DAF is like a charitable savings account: a donor contributes to the fund as frequently as they like and then recommends grants to their favorite charity when they are ready.
For more information about AHCH and your DAF, please contact Sara Lucero, Development Director at saralucero@abqhch.org.
Donating Matters!
You can make a difference. Whether your budget allows a monthly commitment of $5, $10, or $25, a larger annual gift, or your plans include a bequest or legacy gift---your tax-deductible gifts and contributions have an enormous impact on tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness.

Pushing Through
Advocate
AHCH is committed to leading boldly and raising voices to end homelessness; not just in Albuquerque, but nationally too. Advocacy is vital to dismantling the structural barriers that create and perpetuate homelessness.
This 2025 New Mexico State Legislative session, AHCH is launching a brand-new Webinar series to engage our community in advocacy.
If you are interested, be sure to sign up here to make sure your voice is heard. During the webinar we will talk about some of the policies put forward in this session that AHCH supports, answer any questions, and explain the advocacy process.
Curious about where AHCH stands? View our 2025 Legislative Agenda
Other Advocacy activities include hosting tours of the campus to community advocates and leaders, collaborating with neighborhood associations, engaging relationships with community partners, working on cross-agency task forces, speaking at City Council meetings, registering voters, building influence through coalitions and professional organizations, lobbying at State Legislature and participation in special initiatives related to Advocacy. As we continue to innovate structural solutions for homelessness during these turbulent times, we are doubling-down on our commitment to end homelessness before it even begins.
