BHCHP’s Emerging Leaders is a group of socially conscious young professionals from various organizations and companies across Greater Boston, who give their time and talents to support BHCHP’s lifesaving work.
The Emerging Leaders Board (ELB) and Ambassadors Group unite a wide variety of professional backgrounds and is focused on aiding BHCHP’s work through fundraising, networking, volunteering, and educational events. Their mission is to activate Boston’s vibrant and talented young professionals community to support BHCHP by:
- Raising critical funds to further our work;
- Increasing awareness of our services, the impact on our city, and the growing need, and
- Contributing directly to the cause through volunteerism and service.

Position Summary
Board members must possess a knowledge and passion for BHCHP’s mission, an authentic understanding and compassion for BHCHP’s role in ensuring unconditionally equitable and dignified access to the highest quality health care for all individuals and families experiencing homelessness in our community. As a group, the Board is charged with building and strengthening the community of young professionals who support BHCHP, raising critical funds to support the work of our program and fulfill our patients’ needs, and contributing directly to our program through volunteerism and service.
All ELB members are expected to contribute the following:
Financial Support:
- Donate or raise at least $1,000 annually for BHCHP
- Organize a sock or other in-kind donation drive
- Secure raffle items for events as needed
Time:
- Make a minimum one-year commitment
- Attend monthly Board meetings (at least 75% annually)
- Join a Board subcommittee (Marketing/Communications, Volunteer/Service, Social/Events, Corporate Engagement, or Board Development/Recruitment) and regularly participate in scheduled committee calls and meetings
- Complete at least 10 hours of volunteer/service hours throughout the year
- Plan, execute, attend, and recruit attendees for Emerging Leaders events, including networking events, fundraisers, and service projects
- Contribute individual talents and skills to help support the goals of the board
Strategy:
- Generate and share ideas on how to connect BHCHP to the community, including virtual engagement
- Identify partnership opportunities that will allow BHCHP’s message to reach new groups in the Boston community, including new corporations, professional groups, and community organizations
Education:
- Have the ability and willingness to build awareness for BHCHP and educate people within his/her personal and professional network, encouraging new people to support Emerging Leaders’ activities to benefit patients served by BHCHP
- Identify opportunities to reach new audiences and engage new people in the community in BHCHP’s mission, including recruitment of new Emerging Leaders members.

Not ready to join the ELB? Become an Ambassador
BHCHP’s Ambassadors Group is seeking individuals who are interested in planning and supporting activities that improve the lives and health of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Ambassadors are our “ground support,” spreading the word about ELB-organized activities and volunteering with us to serve patients. In return, Ambassadors gain access to news and events with other young professionals who are passionate about social justice and serving the homeless in our community with BHCHP.
Some of the ways that Ambassadors can contribute to the organization include:
- Volunteering at ELB service opportunities with BHCHP patients or with other BHCHP-supported organizations
- Helping to spread the word about ELB events and activities, such as our Sox for Socks drive each spring and Fall Soiree, our annual young professionals gala, each fall
- Being a voice for your peers, sharing your perspective with the ELB and BHCHP to help us offer you the right opportunities to contribute
- Staying up to date on BHCHP news and initiatives, and advocating within your community or corporation for BHCHP’s important work
