Users on Android devices can't play content in Offline mode

We've received reports from Android users mentioning issues with Offline mode. When the device is set in Airplane mode or internet access is disabled, the app gets stuck on a black screen until a “You’re currently offline” error is displayed.

Hi there,

Our tech folks are currently looking into this. If you're experiencing this issue, make sure to add your vote and share the following details:

  • your device's make, model and OS version
  • the version of Spotify you're running
  • whether you're seeing
    -- a black screen;
-- or an error message saying you're offline
  • timestamp of when you last experienced the issue + your time zone

A short screen recording which captures the exact behavior in action would also be greatly appreciated.

We'll keep everyone posted here as soon as we have any updates on the matter, so subscribe to the thread from the three dots menu at the top to stay tuned.

Cheers 🤘

Using Samsung Galaxy FE20, Android 13. Updated Spotify (premium user)  and verified latest Android. App does not open offline. Happens all the time last 2 days OCT 22/23, 2025. Just a black screen. No internet available where I need offline music. Please fix!

I had this issue in August when I went camping. I downloaded lots of my playlists before I left because there's zero cell service where I go camping, not a single bar.

But, there's service on the drive there, so I left it in online mode until I got to the spot.

I tried to open the app and it wouldn't load, I could see the navigation bar on the bottom, but that's all that would load.

Tried cleaning the cache and restarting my phone. Nothing worked. Ended up camping for a week and a half with no music because of this app. Still had a good time cause I love nature, but very frustrating.

Samsung S22+

Android 14

Spotify 9.0.90.1229

Fligu

Android 11

App ver. 9.0.90.1229

App will not load without Internet and is stuck in black screen unless manually set to offline mode while online.

App will not automatically go into offline mode after disconnecting from Internet, and home screen does not update to show offline-available content without manually enabling offline mode.

"Offline Backup" playlist disappears after a fraction of a second from the home screen. It works if clicked before it disappears.

Clearing cache did not fix the problem. No, I will not reinstall the app and redownload all my music. Fix the bug, thanks.

Hello,
I have a Pixel 7 Pro with app version 9.0.94.274.
I recently noticed that when I am offline, I see a banner at the bottom of the page saying "You are in offline mode".
This banner automatically appears when I put my phone in airplane mode.
It seems that since this banner appears, the problem seems to be mainly solved.
Anyone else?
Also, there are still some strange loading times. Despite the banner, sometimes, when I click on the "Library" icon, I see the green loading icon for a long time (it can also get stuck maybe) even if the app is in offline mode (so nothing to load).

Get your sh*t together Spotify!
I have a Pixel 9 with app version 9.0.94.274. Can't play downloaded music whilst offline (Airplane mode). I can see the downloaded music, but tapping on it doesn't do anything.
SORT THIS OUT NOW.

A week ago, I said that the problem seemed to be solved for me, but fake news, lol.

The day after I posted my comment, it stopped working, and I haven't seen the "You are in offline mode" banner since.

And I am still in version 9.0.94.274.

Things I noticed:

- The library page or playlists don't load, even if they are downloaded offline.

- When I play a podcast from the "Your Episodes" playlist, it can start again from the beginning, even if I already started listening to it before. So I have to find where I was myself.

- When I am on the current song playing page (with the controls, the cover, and the timer), the shuffle button can get stuck, and I cannot change it (even with Smart Shuffle disabled).

Spotify is user friendly and sounds fantastic, I was very enthusiastic, but within a week a second  time play is impossible. Spotify is unstable so trying to fix it is pointlessIt's strange that management doesn't solve the problems; as you can see, this problem has been known for a long time. After 3 to 4 hours it works again.

It has nothing to do with internet, the solution is simple when you click on library Then the "Downloaded" option will appear in the top right corner. Click "Downloaded" and you can choose which playlist you want to listen to offline. On your smartphone, enjoy listening.

Sorry don't know who gave you that solution, it doesn`t work. We pay for
a service and don't get it. It is simple a fact of control. If we have
to connect, the app checks if we paid, simple as that.

This screenshot shows that it is possible in the Netherlands, maybe you forgot to update.
