spotify crashes when you click the 3 dots to add to playlist, share ,view artist. etc
Changes were implemented to fix this issue for most common Android models.
Our backstage data combined with received votes and reports on this thread seem to indicate that the changes were successful for a majority of the userbase.
Unfortunately, we're aware that there're still some models with specific Android ROMs that are still experiencing the crash. At this time, we are not able to provide a fix that covers the full range of Android phones.
We'll be continuing our efforts to improve compatibility, but cannot guarantee that your specific device will be affected. As such, we'll be stopping the regular updates of this thread and are marking it as case closed.
So everytime I go into the menu to "share" my spotify app keeps crashing/closing down. It was working fine about 3 days ago. I generally just use the share option to copy the link to the song.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Reset my phone. Signed in and out of my account. Cleared cache/ devices from my spotify account and still nothing.
Whenever I click on the 3 dots to the right of an album, single or EP when they are in a vertical list the app just shuts down and I have to restart it. If I go into the album and click on the dots to do something like add it to queue or to a playlist then itsi fine, it's just when it's on the vertical list page it crashes.
I have the same problem. Any 3 dot menu that I click, Spotify closes. I've tried reinstall but it didn't work. I'm running Resurrection Remix 7.0, based on Android 9.0.
I'm having exactly the same problem, spent an hour in chat with customer support and he had no clue, complete waste of time they just made me uninstall reinstall 3 times log in with their test profile, clear caches all the standard things any kid knows and was basically told my phone that was only released 5 months ago (oukitel c15 pro running Android 9) was the problem and couldn't handle the updates which is complete bs asked to speak to supervisor was told they'd email me in 24 hours, it's now been 2 days and nothing. Not impressed was an early adopter of Spotify and have always loved it but this experience has made rethink wether the $180 a year I'm paying is really worth it considering as soon as there's a problem Spotify's answer is to blame the user rather than admit any faults or errors.
If you would like someone to actually attempt a fix be sure to email
support@spotify.com
I've been going back and forth with support@spotify.com since yesterday and this what they've asked for so far, chat support didn't ask for any of this info so I thought I could potentially save others having this issue the time I've wasted on chat support and at least a couple of emails just be sure to include all this in your initial email.
So we can help you further, we would need a little more information about what’s happening first.
Please let us know:
Your platform and operating system (including the OS version/number), e.g. Mac Sierra 10.12, Windows 7, iPhone 6S, Android 7.0 etc.
The version of Spotify you're running (you'll find this under About Spotify in the app's settings).
Is this happening over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both?
How much storage you have left on your device?
Do you use any cache-clearing or task-killing apps?
Is there an external SD card installed on your device?
A full description of the issue, with as much detail as possible.
How long you've had this issue.
What actions led to it happening.
Does the issue appear on any other devices that you use Spotify on?
If it's possible to include any screenshots of what's happening, that'd be great too. Just attach them to your reply.
I've given them all that and support@spotify.com has replied-
We want to make sure we're on the same page as you, so could you record a video for us demonstrating the issues? We haven't been able to reproduce the issues on any of our devices from different manufacturers, so a video would be very helpful.
They didn't ask for this but I have also included the crash report that pops up after Spotify goes from freeze to full crash, so probably a good idea to add that too.
I have to say that at least they are trying to work it out and that once I emailed support@spotify.com directly they have been very professional and responding within a couple of hours.
After I upgrade to Android 9, every time I click on the player options (where I can share music on social networks and add and remove from playlist) spotify stops working and restarts.
Images belowafter i click the screen look like this
I have the same issue on my ulefone armor 6e with Android 9. Can't add any songs to playlists etc. Reinstalled, cleared everything but nothing works. Any help or any fix?
I do have the same problem, my phone is an umidigi A5 pro updated to the last rom 1.4. Spotify lite does work, but it doesn´t have the same functions as the regular app. I guess is a rom problem?
1. Go to Settings on your phone. 2. Select "Apps". 3. Tap "Spotify" in the app list. 4. Tap on "Storage> Clear Data" for a clean reinstallation. 5. Tap Uninstall. 6. Open Google Play and install the Spotify Music app.
If this doesn't work go to:
Mobile Settings> Apps> Spotify> Permissions. Allow everything you see there.
Mobile settings> Apps> Spotify> Battery> Optimize battery usage> select top All (not optimized for apps)> Spotify> disable.
Then restart the phone. Then everything would have to work fine 🙂
I have Umidigi F1. Spotify has worked great until a few days ago. Now it crashes every time when I click the 3 dots. PLEASE HELP! I am a premium user, actually paying for this....
Maybe we could all email Umdigi customer support and let them know what's going on. I'm not sure what email to send it to or how to access customer support. If anyone can find out how let me know!
What if I download an older Spotify apk from e. g. apkpure.com, (e. g. V8.5.17.676 or the like) delete the current version and install the prior one? Would that help?
Since Spotify has worked before on my F1: How can Umidigi be seen as the culprit, if updating the Spotify app has spoiled it's functionality?
I installed a previous version of Spotify, I actually hadn't updated in first place when I heard they took away the widget and after the freeze problem I updated and then downgraded again.. Nothing changed at all
I just started getting this issue with an app update a couple weeks ago (August 2019). Combined with the car integrations that have been broken for the past 10 months, this app/service is hot garbage.
I also have this problem. Not just Umidigi; also occurs on my LG G6. Combined with Spotify breaking their in-car integrations 10 months ago and refusing to fix (they eventually just closed that Community thread saying they have no timeline or updates and don't want any mroe feedback), this app/service has turned into complete trash.
Please give us the following information: 1. Could you confirm if you have tried the steps from this article, especially step 1? 2. Also, do you use an SD card with your phone? If so, could you try removing it and reinstalling?
I have the same "3 button app freezing" problem on my Umidigi F1. I finally successfully installed the new Umidigi update (ending in 1638) after multiple attempts hoping it would fix the Spotify issue but it didn't.
I see a few posts around about this problem, but not a lot. I'm wondering is it every F1 or just certain one's (maybe Spotify clashing with another installed app) ?
Spotify Lite works all ok but doesn't have all the needed features (ie Android Auto).
It's the only problem I have with my new F1 so need to decide before my 30 day Amazon return window expires.
Good point with the other apps clashing. Is there anybody here who can try a fresh android install and install ONLY spotify to see if it works that way. If so, then reinstall other apps one by one until Spotify is toast.
Hey folks, just so you know - Spotify is informed about this issue and we're looking into it! Subscribe to get notifications about updates on the topic.
Any time I attempt to access any menu regarding a specific song, artist, album, playlist, etc; the app hangs and eventually crashes. This issue has been reported before, but I have seen either no follow up or the provided solutions did not work.
I have restarted my phone, updated phone itself, restarted the app, cleared cache and storage, uninstalled then reinstalled the app, removed all devices, and have even done a clean installation of the app twice.
All basic troubleshooting has been done, and I have had zero results. This was not a problem until the app updated in July, leading me to believe it is a result of an update.
I do not use third party monitoring apps, and I do not use the battery saving features whatsoever. My phone uses stock android, as well if that helps.
This happens even if Spotify is the only app I have running.
Hi there, The Android app keeps repeatingly crashing:
Whenever I try to delete an album from my library by either holding onto the album or after groing onto the details page and tapping the three dots symbol, the app will freeze and has to be closed by the system's app manager.
Spotify does not respond
Is there any way to fix this issue? I have been observing this issue since the last two app updates. It makes is quite difficult to use it at all with these issues and I'd be happy to get any input on that.

As soon as I click on the 3 dot thingy in the upper right corner to be able to add to playlist, app just freezes completely... Although music will continue to play until about 20 seconds when the app just completely crashes. Beyond frustrating.... I've attempted to do clean reinstall... It does nothing. Please help.
The same also goes with me, I tried to edit the name of my playlist through the mobile app, whenever I tap the menu (the 3 dots) it freezes and I have to close and relaunch it so it will just go back to normal. Force closing it won't work either. I also experiencing the same when I tapped the 3 dots beside a particular song or album, anything with 3 dots beside it, I have to do it via desktop app instead, what a bummer... 😔😔
You are not alone. This issue has happened and been fixed and broken multiple times. Some say its the Spotify App others say its the Phone's ROM. In my personal experience its something to do with the Spotify App. Usually, its an App update that reintroduces the issue. Reaching out to Spotify support is useless. Endless back and forth. Last time I gave up and seriously considered switching to another service but then it miraculously got fixed. Now here I am again with the same issue.
Can anyone give me directions either text or via video on how to get an older rom for the Umidigi F1. I'm sick and tried of waiting on these people to fix this issue. These people meaning the Umidigi team.... 😤😤
Typically, app compatibility with devices and their respective software/firmware is the responsibility of the the app creator, and not the device manufacturer. At least regarding media apps and games.
Outside of bricking, hard failures, and general widespread incompatibility with the OS; it's on whoever makes the app to fix the issue.
Now, if these issues are occurring on more than one app, it's absolutely Umidigi's responsibility. But, it seems isolated to Spotify at the moment.
I imagine this issue might not be restricted to only the F1, and may be a problem with other Umidigi models across the board.
I also think its the app. Other devices other than Umidigi have been impacted.
However, Spotify tech support does not care in my opinion. Why? Because this is not a new issue. Its happened before. So all they need to do is research their own data bases. Instead you get hassled to provide screen shots and answer scripted questions.
As Spotify does not even appear to address this problem, I sadly have cancelled my membership. I really like a lot of their features such as Ogg Vorbis codec and it's great to have a native LInux client. But without a functioning Android app, it's not going to work out for me anymore. Btw. Tidal's app for Android works flawlessly on my F1 and at much better performance than Spotify ever did.
Hi there. You are right. It is frustrating. The issue you described is impacting multiple users. There is no fix or steps you can take to fix it. This is something Spotify has to fix in their app. Hopefully they are working on it. But we do not know for sure.
Last time this issue came up it eventually got fixed but took a couple of months.
Thought that was the end of it but here it is again. And who knows if it is a priority or even known by Spotify support.
One person here mentioned switching to Tidal as it works fine on their phone. Obviously I would prefer to avoid the hassle. But I may consider the same if a fix here does not come soon.
Guys, are we sure that switching cellphone can solve the issue once and for all? I am thinking Honor 20 lite / Samsung M Series, Huawei.. etc ... So far the issue is only on Umidigi and Xiaomi, right?
No, there are also other brands mentioned in this thread. And it's not like I was going to buy a different phone just because Spotify is chronically reluctant to fix this issue, simply cancelled my premium. And previous versions before August did work just fine.
Hey! Same issue here. Android 9.0 MiUI 10.4.9 on Redmi Note 8 pro. Pressing the 3-dot icon to open the menu freezes the app. Hope that it will be resolved soon!
Looks like Spotify have decided to try and fix it now that people have started cancelling their subscriptions, they recently sent me this-
We can confirm that since you reported this, other users have reported the issues with the same circumstances, and we have therefore our developers working on a fix.
We've recently released an update that should fix it for many devices and users, so can you check if you can update the app? Once you've done this, please get back to us with the version of Spotify you have installed so we can verify if it's the one with the possible fix.
Tried it, let them know it didn't work and they replied with this.
Hello again,
Thanks for getting back to us so quickly and confirming the version you have installed.
The version you have is the one that has fixed the issue on many devices. As it's still not working for you, we have forwarded this to our developers so they can investigate it further. They are looking on their end for what's causing the issues with the affected devices so a widespread fix can be released as soon as possible.
Just keep the app updated, and you will have the fix implemented as soon as it's available.
We want to apologize for the time it's taking to get to the bottom of this, and want to thank you for your patience. If there's anything else we can assist you with, we're always here for you.-
So hopefully there's a fix soon. I decided if it's not fixed before my next payment in a couple of weeks I'll just cancel my premium family subscription they've had more than enough time and it'd already be fixed if they'd just listened from the start and actually done something about it.
Yeah same version as me, still might be worth an un/re install if you haven't already other than that we will have to wait and see🤞they actually fix it.
I've had this same issue on my Umidigi F1 for a while now. The interesting thing is there is no problem with the Spotify Lite app. I'm not a programmer, but I would think that this should help in identifying the issue with the full service Spotify app.
Great post! I thought to test that too. But the darn app is not available in the USA. Spotify is a nice service but can be such a pain. Would be happy to get the lite version if I could.
And you are right. If they can make it work on the Lite version then why not the main version?
I think that is not a priority fro spotify to solve this issue. It's been a long time since began the problem. It's useless. If they don't fix before November i'm gonna move my account to another platform
Same problem here on Ulefone Armor 6E, Stock android 9.0. I will wait a moment for the update, if that does not help, unfortunately I will have to cancel the subscription
Yes, Tidals does work great on my Umidigi F1, also starts much faster than Spotify ever did. They do have some fewer selections but most of it is identical and the user interface is pretty much the same. Just missing the native client for Linux, otherwise it's great.
Tried everything (reinstalling both app and Android, deleting everything, etc.) Spotify app still freezes&crashes when I tap the three dot menu (anywhere - on a song, album, playlist).
Two months passed, still no fix. Or even an alert of a fix in progress. I appreciate everyone who has also shared their issue and frustrations as it lets me know I haven't been the only person with this issue.
At this point, I'm frustrated enough with this inconvenience that I've begun looking at other services. I emailed Spotify support a strong email stating the issue, some of the details, and the fact that it has been happening to multiple users on a variety of different phones, not just the Umidigi F1. I listed every phone I'd seen in this thread, including the Samsung Galaxy S6, OnePlus 5t, Google Pixel 3, LG G6, LG V20, Asus Max Plus M1, Redmi 6A, and others. I also did extra research into the issue and gave them specifics that their developers could look at. All I got back were basic troubleshooting techniques, from reinstalling the app and clearing the cache all the way up to formatting my SD card and factory resetting my phone. Seriously? I'm not going to factory reset my entire phone for the minute possibility that I'll be able to queue songs again. Not worth it.
The other thing I wanted to mention to everyone here is I've noticed it doesn't crash on every three dots menu. For example, it doesn't crash for me on Spotify official playlists, on a podcast's episode page, or on albums via the artist page. But it will crash from hitting the three dots on a custom playlist, next to any song anywhere, or on an album that's saved to the device. This indicates to me that there's a discrepancy between the way the Spotify app loads the options for the three dots menu depending on where you're hitting it. It seems like things that you've saved (albums, songs, episodes of podcasts, etc.) will crash, but things built into the Spotify platform (albums on the artist's page, a podcast episode description page, Spotify's playlists like RapCaviar) won't. Go to the RapCaviar playlist and hit the three dots in the top right, it should work fine. Then go to one of your own custom playlists and hit the three dots in the top right, it'll likely crash. This should be some kind of hint to the Spotify developers, but customer support ignored my points and instead suggested I format my phone, which pushed me over my tipping point.
At the moment, I'm finished hoping for an update that will fix this anytime soon. Onto the next service.
Yes, same behavior in my Ulefone Armor 6_e. Tried your playlist and doesn't crash. I've been mailing spotify since the problem began. Every time they said: "our developers are working on your problem".
I think everyone has the same problem must mail them, it's really crazy paying for a service that doesn't work.
Same here on my newly opened Redmi Note 8 Pro. I've went trough all of the process including the video demonstration they had no idea how to help.Said it's under incestigation but it's been a while already. Did this issues get fixed for anyone at all?
Can someone inform Umidigi they should look into Spotify issue?! There is the Umidigi Forum, where the ROM installation is discussed. Let them know that August system update broke Spotify.
I just canceled the Spotify subscription. Tidal app works perfectly, is similar in use and the song database is very similar to spotify. 6 months for free for TIDAL HIFI (new users).
If I didn't pay for spotify, that would be my problem, but since I pay, that's their problem...
Several users contacted Spotify's support because of this issue. When I canceled my premium membership, I explained in the comment field why and also pasted a link to this very forum thread.
They are very much aware of it, but are completely constipated (e.g. they don't give a s....), simple and sad as that.
I have the same problem with my Redmi 6A, the app is UNUSABLE right now, I just can't update my playlists or manage songs, it's getting annoying using the application because or I forget that the problem exists (leading to a app freeze) or I get frustrated that I can't click on the three dots because it's gonna freeze (IDK if this make sense, but...)
I'm having the same issue after the latest MIUI update since 2 days ago on my Xiami Redmi 6 and have tried all the basic troubleshooting steps like clear cache and data, reinstall, not using an SD card an restart.
Sorry to hear that. This is an ongoing issue. Nothing will fix the problem with out Spotify releasing a bug fix. Its been over a month now and Spotify is dead silent on the matter. Some people are so fed up they left Spotify and joined Tidal.
Its not clear if Spotify is working on a fix. So assuming its going to be awhile longer.
There's a pretty simple explanation: The app retrieves data from Spotify's servers. You have no control/insight over what they communicate with the app. Just another hint that Spotify **bleep** up.
Any update on this. I see the question has been live for 2 months. It just started happening to me after an android update and now I can't add songs to playlists within crashing my whole phone.
The Spotify Lite app is not available in all regions of the world (for example USA). So its not the best workaround.
Also, you are 100% right in asking if it works fine on Lite then why not the full version. And that is really the point. Logic suggests it's something Spotify can fix or control. But after two months still nothing.
Exact same issue with Android Pie 9.0 on Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, and after a year no resolution for such a big company like Spotify? Hmm could it be due to Mediatek CPUs? On my Mi5 (Qualcomm Snapdragon) it works with zero hassle.
I have the same problem! Yesterday everything was working just fine as long as i remember, then later that night, when i tried to add a song in a playlist, the app crashed. I tried it several times just to make sure and it was still crashing every time. Tried uninstalling, restarting the phone, updated everything i could possibly find. Using the latest version of the app, I double checked. I have Redmi Note 8 Pro, Android 9. I did not have a problem with my previous phone. Please fix this bug, it's really making the app semi unusable.
Caution. Ifvits not on the Google Play Store then you have no idea if the app has been tampered with. This is how you get a virus etc. So it is a risk.
Just go to Twitter and contact @SpotifyCares and tell them that this is happening, the more people that go at them the faster they will get the technicians to work.
This isn't an Umidigi issue. It is a Spotify issue which they refuse to fix (among other issues).
I've been trying to do my part to motivate Spotify to solve their app issues since November 2018 - even sharing detailed testing scenarios/results across multiple devices and accounts.
After doing all this and still not seeing any improvement, my own solution is to cancel my family premium subscription.
This has been my issue for ca 14 days now. This does not allow me to use the service I am paying for in a full manner. Please make sure to inform us when this issue will be resolved. Thank you.
Every time I press the 3 dot menu on a playlist or song spotify crashes and i have to re enter. If a song is playing while i press the three dot menu app crashes but the playlist keeps on playing without me able to stop it or change song. Hope next update would fix it, kind of annoying to have such a major problem when paying for a premium account...
Actually I am happy to see this is NOT my device's fault. I reinstalled the system, checked all the cache many times and was planning to substitute my Xiaomi with a new phone. But it's good to know that it is Spotify that failed this time. Just wondering how extensive the issue is and what Spotify plans to do about it. Gonna check how universal the problem is with my Facebook pals in Poland.
Again, Spotify have proven they have no interest in actually fixing their app. I have cancelled my Family Premium subscription as of today. Quite happy with a mix of Amazon, Deezer, Google Play, and SiriusXM now.
Its not anyone's phone. It is a Spotify issue. There is zero clariry on any fix. Current workaround for some users is to install Spotify Lite app ( available in select regions only).
Is spotify taking seriously to solve the issue? updates been launch but the issue still ongoing. we have paid for the premium but the service very awful.
We are talking amongst ourselves with zero results in this forum. At least four Spotify App updates have passed with no fix on this issue.
To date, we have not heard from Spotify on the matter. For all we know they are not aware of the problem or don't care because it is not a problem on more popular mainstream devices from Apple or Samsung, vetc.
I approached Spotify Cares via Facebook. They at least tried to support me and when seeing that the issue is only under my Xiaomi phone they decided that the problem stems from Miui or Android update. I wrote to Xiaomi and they replied. I will show you what they replied in a second.
My today's comment about the Samsungs was wrong. Earlier in this thread there is a S6 affected.
It is not the Mediatek chip - if you look at this thread from the first pages, non mediathek phones are affected too.
I also found out that a OnePlus 5T Pro was affected, which gives me some extra chilling horror, since I ordered a Oneplus 7T Pro yesterday (at EUR 750) JUST TO GET RID OF THIS F***IN SPOTIFY ISSUE! I 'll see soon if it is affected too. PRAY FOR ME!!!
BTW: is this thread visible from the outside internet or only to subscribers? With 25 people suffering and no one looking, we can't make enough noise to effectively tell Spotify to MOVE THEIR **bleep**!
Hi. This is what I could do to publicly ask Spotify Cares if they really care about our thread and the issue it refers to. Feel free to support it and spread it if you think it might speed up their reaction. Thanks
I also contacted @spotifycares at twitter and they replied to me very fast and tried to solve the issue with the normal stuff (cache, reboot, different account and phone, etc), and as we know by now, it did not work. Nevertheless, they do know about the issue now and some of us already contacted them, and I think we should keep on doing it. As suggested by @dinozauriusz, it might speed up the process.
Fun fact, I also notice today there as an update for the app and still, the issue was not solved, lol.
Thanks @Ariana923 . There is nothing more we can do at the moment. I guess if the issue is not a massive one, they will treat each and everyone of us separately in private chats not to make too much fuss in public about the fact their app is irresponsive and thus we pay for sth we cannot use. I encourage you to comment not only here but also under my private post on facebook profile. Maybe this way we will become more visible and audilble...or at least someone from Spotify will comment on the progress here.
BTW. Have a look. There are more of us and more threads like ours. They refer to the one we are in. It means they want to centralize it and see the scope of the problem?
P.S. I went through the latest review entries at Play Store. Well, they are very far from being rave, I have to admit. Many people indicate that the latest refurbishing of the app and the way it has been behaving lately affects the way they perceive the premium service. I've got a strange feeling this is all a bit bigger issue than just the three-dots one.
Hello there, I have also a Redmi Note 8 Pro with the same problem and I have found a WORKING solution. Tested 100% working fine.
1/ Uninstall your current Spotify version
2/ Download TWO OLDER versions of Spotify apk
You must download:
spotify-6-0-0-864.apk and spotify-8-2-0-788.apk
(do a search on the internet to get those, this is not difficult as many people need older versions of Spotify to avoid the many bugs introduce with the latest verisons of the latest 6 months, check uptodown for example)
3/ Now, install spotify-6-0-0-864.apk
Log in to your Spotify account.
This version is working fine (the 3 dots menu also), but it is a bit old.
So now you can install spotify-8-2-0-788.apk version over this one (it will work as an update), then you will benefit from a newer Spotify interface and the 3 dots menu is still working fine.
-> No more Notch - GOODBYE to notched screens from cellphone stoneage FOREVER.
SPOTIFY WORKING!! CAN U BELIEVE THAT!!! I AM JUMPING ON THE CEILING !!!!! NO MORE NIGHTMARES AND SLEEPLESS NIGHTS JUST BECAUSE A MENU BUTTON FREEZES EVRYTHING
Just put the Umidigi / XIAOMI whatever sh**t to the nearest garbage can - on average there is one every two streets and
NEVER LOOK BACK!!!
MY SPOTIFY IS WORKING!!!!!!! IT IS SOOOOO UNBELIEVABLE
Alright, Viennatom, so you pay for some "Premium" service and when it fails you just change the phone and come here where everyone still suffers from it to make jokes in upper case. Spotify should hire you, so they could keep bad issue tracking and development while you solve it for yourself. Btw, I'm thinking to solve mine too, canceling the service, not my phone.
I also changed to Redmi Note 8 Pro a few days ago, same problem here, APP freezed BUT the music is still playing normally, and when I let it play to next song, the UI turned back to normal.
I am using a SD card, have a built-in MIUI app killer, reinstalled the app twice, still the same issue.

Yeah I've got the redmi note 8 pro and it's broken for me too, good to see Spotify cba to fix this as its been going on for a year now
Some of you report it has been going on for a year (!!!). So, does it mean there has been no cooperation between Xiaomi and Spotify on that for such a long time? I can hardly believe that. I have two Redmi phones and the old one where I broke its glass still works for me while the new Redmi 6 does not. Just still keep on wondering WHAT exactly is the root cause of the problem.
As I am also a journalist I am going to check if the issue is known in Polish tech portals and if they find interest in such a topic. I guess this is not a high profile one, but still worth checking.
Spotify Cares assures me via chat they work dilligently to solve the issue, but looking at your emails in this thread one may become a bit doubtful if this is going anywhere.
Hi again. BTW. This is what Xiaomi replied to me when I submitted the very same issue under their global service. Maybe it will come in handy to any of you. Please let me know if this worked for you at all. In my case it failed.

I believe it is still worth a try seeing such a passive communication from Spotify. I'm going to try it now again and will let you know if this helped.
Ok. I double checked. The instructions from Xiaomi won't work. Here is my email to them:
Dear Xiaomi,
I am afraid this will NOT work for any of us. I am in contact with Spotify who assure me they keep on working on the issue. I asked them openly if they approached you on the three dot issue. They never replied openly.
The interesting fact is that my old Xiaomi phone's Spotify app works fine irrespective of the number of updates. Thisis only Redmi 7 in my case that causes issues.
If you have a look at this thread you will see clearly that most of the submissions are from Xiaomi phone owners.
Frankly speaking if any of you, that is Spotify or Xiaomi, does not solve this issue I am going to bid farewell to both of your services. Right now I am paying for a product/service I cannot use accordingly. Sorry to write that. And there are more frustrated in the thread pasted in than me only. And some of them have been affected for more than a YEAR(!!!) now.
Mine issue is similar. When I play a song and then click on settings, Spotify crashes and the song keeps playing. It keeps playing even if I click to stop the music or close the app. So to stop the music, I have to restart my phone.
I've just bought HiFi subscription of Tidal. This is actually the best way to express my dissatisfaction with how the issue is treated by Spotify so far. If nothing changes till mid November this will be the best moment to bid farewell after so many years.
The spotify-6-0-0-864.apk works fine on my Note 8 Pro.
But when I try to install the spotify-8-2-0-788.apk the uptade installation failed. And then I try every single versions . Also I try the lastest stable version but It doesn't work. We need and compability update.
I think Tidal ist the best way to go in this situation. I always loved Spotify but it sadly went useless for me now. Maybe just turn back when the problem is solved because of all the playlists. 😕 Redmi Note 8 Pro here
I am, as I speak, testing Tidal in HiFi. Amazing quality of the sound, no app crashes so far, no glitches in connection. I am giving Spotify team time till the end of November. If no concrete actions taken, then this will be the end of our "relation". And I will encourage my family and closest friends who also struggle to do the same. Big up to all of you who patiently bear the fact they have been deprived of the app full functionality and still have not requested any kind of refund on this occasion. 🙂
I have just tried the 4th time to reinstall the app, clear all the data. It still does not work for me. Any quick fix for this issues. Without the menu, we can't edit the playlist. I'm using premium version. Thanks.
My redmi note 8 pro also facing the same issue and I'm so frustrated 😂😂 My previous phone speaker is dead so I'm getting this new note 8 and now I still can't sing in the shower. Spotify team you need to help us 😂😂😂😂😂
I have been using an older version of the app since the problem occured. I got used to it really quickly, works just fine for me, but it's not I had on my mind, when I started my subscription.
I today write to support about this issue. They working on it.

This issue is nearly 2 months old and has not been fixed.
Also I was sent here for the solution thread via a complaint of the same problem on a Redmi phone (which seemes to be affecting a number of MIUI based phones). Are you sure this is the exact same issue as I have seen complaints of a similar thing from Samsung users covering the last year or more.
I canceled my premium since this problem renders my account useless (I mostly used it on my phone).
Anyway, after that i went back to the free account and now SURPRISE, it works only when you are a free subscriber, but not on premium. Only bad thing about free spotify are ads, so loud and irrelevant to my tastes.
Anyone want to try that and tell us if as I suspect, it only fails when you are premium?
Can you finally fix this issue? Iam paying for premium and I can't even sort my playlist or add a song to it normally. Its so annoying, its been like 2 month and still nothing.
Mind my words. For some of us here it has been more than a year now. For me personally more than a month. My Tidal is playing smoothly. The end of November will see me getting out of the Spotify Network unless it gets repaired. If there were thousands of us here, maybe media would escalate it. For now we are just a sandbox full of bitter kiddos.
It is not the problem of your phone. It is the app problem. I already have a working session with Spotify support team. They provided me a testing account to test the app. I think they know the issue and now trying to fix it. Give then some time and see how.
It is not the problem of your phone. It is the app problem. I already have a working session with Spotify support team. They provided me a testing account to test the app. I think they know the issue and now trying to fix it. Give them some time and see how. I'm also using premium. Now I can't edit my playlist. My workaround is login using laptop and then edit from there.
I ended my 3 year premium subscription yesterday and vowed not to come back until this issue is fixed. I hope more and more people will stop putting up with this. I hope this will lead to a solution and faster handling of such problems.
I'm in a Twitter conversation with Spotify cares to see if I can fix it. Problem is I'm 98% sure it's a bot I'm talking to. Something about the way their responses are structured and the way the repeat themselves. I'll keep on it to see if it goes anywhere but I don't have much hope.
Android 9, LG G6, app getting worse and slower from day to day after last app update. High battery consumtion, smartphone freeze, no change to log out. Phone crash and hang up at shut down. By new installation of app the same result, WIFI same result. Finally Spotify app removed from Smartphone and still paying for service. Please provide new and fixed update.

Update:
Factory reset done, new memory card installed, Spotify installed.
Hi Everyone here, one simple question: has anyone looked up the terms of the service properly yet? Are there any stipulations that we can refer.to and thus demand the return of funds as the service we are paying for is crippled and not exactly the same in its shape as it was advertised/offered while we were making a decision to pay? It is definitely worth checking, especially if any of you here is a lawyer or cooperates with such. Just a thought for all of you who waited almost/more than a year while nothing was actually done. I can wait till the end of November. Then I bid farewell.
If anyone is interested. I found out that the old version 6.3 is still working flawlessly on my device. This is also a good opportunity until this finally gets fixed...
I amhaving the same problem (the app crashes after clicking the three dots menu) since I updated the android version.
I know this issue is under investigation, but I have not seen many non-UMIDIGI users with the same problem, that is why I wanted to show this is happening to other Android users too.
Everytime I click on the setting option on a song it freezes and eventually crashes. Only happens on my current new phone - Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro. Quite strange how it keeps happening! I just wanna create playlists etc.!
Hopefully it'll be fixed soon, I love spotify and I wanna keep using it.
Tengo problema en este podcast "Boca de Urna" en todas las pistas en diversos momentos de cada pista tiene errores de audio distorcionados y perdida de volumen.
Same problem for me using the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, pls fix this bug, it's really annoying and it's making me wonder about canceling my premium subscription...
This is truly abysmal. Spotify, why can't you at the very least provide status updates, even if it says "sorry, nothing so far but we're still aware of this issue and are working on it."
That would be so much better than this radio silence as you continue to release updates which do nothing to fix this infuriating problem.
Same problem for me on Xiaomi Redmi 6. I've also reported it to Xiaomi as it could be something they have changed in OS.
It's really frustrating that it was reported weeks ago and Spotify have given no information on when it will be fixed. Also Spotify, why don't you ever update your release notes?! All it ever says is "We're always making changes...", which is in my opinion as a dev, totally useless and a complete cop-out. It's not hard to give a brief summary of what you've changed...
Please fix ASAP as lots of people are having this issue and we are all paying money for the app!
"Why do we pay for a company that doesn't give a **** about its clients ????"
Based on Spotify's failure to respond to this and many other issues, I have chosen to stop giving my money to them and instead am paying their competitors for a better service and product.
I encourage others to do the same. Clearly the detailed bug reports and user self-testing we have been doing for them is of no interest to them anyway. I can only assume they aren't interested in our money, either.
This is a product people pay for, not a crowdsourced piece of freeware. We deserve better as consumers and luckily there are better alternatives available.
Ok, Spotify. You and/or Xiaomi had enough of time to convince me you are worth my money. 06.12 will be a symbolic and "thy-shall-not-pass" date of a solution to be delivered globally. If you fail to do so, my Tidal account plus all my Bandcamp downloads will be more than welcome to take my $$$. You totally fail in terms of communicating with us here. Let the money speak. Such a disappointment after so many years.

My redmi note 8 pro has just updated to 11.0.1 and that's fixed it for me finally, no longer having to use the 2 year old version of Spotify to be able to press the 3 dots
Thank you. My redmi note 8 pro finally does not have the problem anymore. Thank you for fixing it. As for the other phone users, I think they will release a fix soon in the future, so be patient.
I would say that Spotify is looking at this issue very slow. I have been notified them for more than 1 month. Still no any update from them.
This issue happened on specific phone only especially after update to Android Pie. What I doing now is waiting for MIUI update. Meanwhile use my laptop to edit my playlist.
You're the best! I don't care about liability issues due to old versions. It works, it's light and fast, and it's even in my own country language which I didn't knew existed ahah Thank you very mucho!
MIUI 11 will only fix the issue for Xiaomi users. It will not fix it for users of other devices. So do not "dear all." This is not a Xiaomi only issue.
It affects users of multiple brands, from flagship brands like Samsung to non-flagship brands like Umidigi.
The issue is a UI issue, that much is very obvious. Something with how the UI is rendered is causing the crashes across the board.
The menus work with older Spotify versions that sport older UIs, which is what I am currently using. And, it works with Spotify Lite as well.
Meaning, the problem is an app problem specifically and should not be addressed by phone makers. This needs to be fixed by Spotify, and their lack of a solution to this problem is beyond irritating.
Exactly kasaanda, the solution must be from Spotify as it is a bug from the way they made the UI or some library they use. And thanks for the tip on Spotify Lite, will try it out.
I'm having the same issue on my Android. I can't modify my playlists at all... And it adds it's own songs to my playlists but won't let me delete them without crashing. It's getting to the point I don't want Spotify premium anymore... Why pay for what I can't use.
Fellows, there are plenty of applications working fine with MIUI 10.4.4. My solution was moving to T****. They have three dot button too 😄 and it's working correctly. So far no regrets. Good luck and goodbye, Spotify.
Exact same phone and problem... A **bleep**ing year later, what an active support center (maybe rude but jezus it's getting really annoying, already been having the problem for a year)
This issue continues to rack up votes all the while Spotify say absolutely nothing with regards to progress. This is unbelievably pathetic on Spotify's part.
Having the same problem at this moment on my device Xiaomi. Spotify is updated version: 8.5.33.831 and uninstall and install doesn't solve the problem.
My phone is a Redmi 6A and I live in Brazil as well, with no automatic update to MIUI 11 so far. However, to test if it could solve the problem, I force updated to 11 and still not working.
So I want to begin saying that I'm pretty upset with the support this time beacuse this problem has been posted here for several months and it hasn't been solved, we are tired of this, I hope this time support pay us attention
So I'm a xiaomi user with a redmi 6 device, since I've updated to Android 9/pie and miui 10.4 I've had this problem, I know it's present in other devices and people say that this problem isn't solved with miui 11 update (on REDMI 6, it's solved on other devices with miui 11 but not every device). So it's a Spotify app problem and support has to repair this.
ALSO, it's not happening only on xiaomi devices.
If this problem doesn't get solved as soon as possible many people will be forced to cancel premium membership beacuse we are paying for something that isn't working properly.
SUPPORT DON'T IGNORE US THIS TIME AND REPAIR THIS.
ATTACHMENTS AND VIDEO:
spotify community post that keeps getting ignored and has no updates or recent response from spotify's team:
+1 for Umidigi F1 +2 for LG G6 +3 for Asus Zenfone 3
This and other issues had me frustrated with Spotify. Then Spotify's "support" and lack of response and closing cases that were still problems led me to cancel my Family Premium subscription. Google Music and Tidal have been amazing alternatives to spend my money on!
I have had this issue for around 4 months, they gave me a test login of which the 3 dots worked on the app but when I logged out of the test account and into the mine they don't work. if i didn't listen to Spotify on my PC i would have walked by now.
Redmi 6A too. Still breaking, for around three months now. I have a family account and I'm gonna cancel. There's no sense paying for something that doesn't work properly
I have an Android 9.0 device as well with the same issue.
One of the functions I use the most is "Add to Queue" and of course, with this issue I can't use this function that's why I tried to find a solution while Spotify works on it. I tried old versions of Spotify and I found this one: Spotify.v6.3.0.882.
This version is the most recent one in where you can open the 3 dot menu, however it's not perfect; I noticed I can't open the playlist and Radios that are shown on Home, but you can open your Daily Mixes and the Discover Weekly playlist and of course, it's not as pretty as the actual one.
My device is Xiaomi Redmi 6A and MIUI 11 does not fix anything at all. Because there is a reality that this damned bug is is because of the Spotify app but nothing else and they do not try to fix this bug for 4 months approximately so I won't use Spotify in 2020 anymore and never recommend it to any of my friends. Good bye Spotify, I hope you can find better staffs to fix and improve your mobile application. Spotify is DEAD for me.
Cannot express, how this makes me feel absolutely hopeless as paying user - I don't understand programming so I definitely cannot grasp, how difficult that problem can be... but the lack of communication about the matter is disgraceful in my eyes. Through 15 years of computer programs usage, I have never experienced something like this as a subscribed user... I guess Apple music or Deezer it is, or I don't know anymore...
Thanks for jumping in this thread with a solution that worked for you! It's always nice to see dedicated users who are helping out others in the Community.
We can assure you this issue is being looked into by the tech people and we appreciate your patience. We hope you'll stay with us in the meantime!

Xiaomi Redmi 6 System update made from MIUI 10 to 11.01 The issue still persists. No real changes. How about all of us making a big action under #threedotsrefund for all these weeks and months of nor delivering a service to us? Why don't we act globally together? Cmon Guys. Why do we let them treat us like this?
Petya, this fix is useless to me. Cut the nonsense! Don't count on community fixes when you distribute crippled close-source application!
When my Premium subscription has finished, I reinstalled Spotify out of curiosity. I was really amazed, when I saw your app to work correctly out of the blue (still the same version of MIUI and your .apk). Imagine my anger when app started to crash again only after renew Premium! Think hard how it looks!
It's really pathetic that you hope we'll "stay with you in the meantime". Who would pay for something that doesn't work? I wouldn't. When something stops to work permanently, I stop paying. It's simple.
I won't wait forever for update of your app . I already got to know very nice applications (IMO better than Spotify or even way out of your league) for podcasts (i.e. Pocket Casts, Player FM).
And I'm hanging around with Tidal and Deezer and trying to figure out which of these two would be better choice. FYI both are working perfectly correctly.
Just upgraded to MIUI 11 and the problem remains. It's pathetic that Spotify can't take care of the problem for such a long time. I don't see the point of paying for premium if I can't even use the app properly.
Redmi 6 user here, updated to MIUI 11, uninstall and reinstalled Spotify, still didn't fix the problem. I'm very close to unsubscribing Premium. This is really frustrating.
To solve this problem, I think Spotify need to invest in buying a Xiaomi phone (or borrow an employee's phone) and see the real problem. I think it's been more than a year when someone posted the problem and there is no solution to this yet..
Everyone - if you're having this problem, just unsubscribe already. Spotify has proven they either have no interest in or no ability to solve this problem or others that plague their app and service.
The last couple months without the almost daily frustration of Spotify not working properly have been wonderful. Music is a big part of my day and literally I am less stressed from not having to constantly fight with the application that provides it to me.
My friend who works for an IT company said they won't do nothing for us and recommended to me that we all simply quit their subscription or change to another phone. This is brutal reality: Spotify does not give s###it about the issue as this is most likely a relatively insignificant one compared to other issues they face or the workload they would have to invest to solve it. So let's keep it real before Xmas. This year there are no presents for us from Sweden. 🙂
Trust me. They won't cry. We are collateral damage to them. Full stop. Low rates at Google Play will change nothing. There are millions of happy users. Be realistic.
Do you guys know there is a workaround to this problem?
Simply click the playlist you want to add a song to and then search for the song. This way it works, so you can use the app, even though**bleep** on us and our problems 🙂
Ocorre o mesmo problema comigo, quando clico nos 3 pontos em qualquer aba do aplicativo ele congela e tenho que fechar o aplicativo e abrir novamente pra poder utiliza-lo.
The only ways to solve this issue is downgrade the Spotify application to a earlier version such as 6.3.0.882 that works perfectly, or change to another streaming service.
Thank you so much for providing the version of the app that does work. A simple question: why on earth no single brain in Spotify ranks did it for us as a workaround interim solution so far? This is beyond my understanding. Happy Holidays to all the forum members! I really admire your and my patience.
It's almost 2020 and the problem is still not fixed. Everytime I click the 3 dots, Spotify freezes but the music kept going and I can't do anything to stop it. The app is useless anymore and it sucks cause I'm paying them for their service. I even tried reformatting my phone and I just wasted my time.
Yep, this is a hard reality. A company who is cited as a trailblazer for the startup feel reaches the level when it finds impossible to solve a basic issue in its own software. This is exactly when you fall a victim to the self-development. Sorry to read that.
Still, there is no any solution. Does Spotify try to find that how to lose approximately 1k premium users and more? Because I won't keep on paying for a service that I can't use anymore. I will take legal actions as well in my country.
The old version helped me a lot. But, as a side question: what or who made the latest versions of the Spotify app incompatible? Since Spotify is not willing to respond officially, maybe we have someone here knowledgeable enough to tell us what exactly crashes the app. To me it looks that the new version of Android system somehow affected it. Just curious if anyone knows that. Thanks ahead!
@issnapubliYou think you're so wise? I bought new phone when Spotify already knew about problem. There was no information about possible bug on certains devices and no suggestion about workarounds. If I was Spotify, I would post some hint about it. We don't need be patient, nice and wait for new update (for how long?) or until new phone. Oh, wait - I already have new phone!
@issnapubli do we really have to use an older version of spotify from 2016 (4 years ago, FOUR) or buy a new phone to be able to use only a single app properly? are you kidding with us seriously or are you one of developers of spotify app who does not know how to fix this damned bug? WE DON'T WANT TO WAIT ANYMORE FOR A SOLUTION! FIX IT OR KEEP ON LOSING YOUR USERS!
This is not worth your nerves. The Spotify developers or rather the decision makers paying them really do not treat us seriously. And they won't. I've said it here on numerous occasions. Do not expect a quick repair. Either use the old app version or just leave them. If any of the internet providers, let's say, repaired their service for a year there would be a turmoil across media. The same for banks or other top need-related products. This is not such a service. And they are aware of it. Let's be realistic. No one will sue them for this negligence either. Unless someone surprises me here. 🙂
I have no other option but to cancel till it is fixed, I can't reach for a computer every time I want to make a playlist. This defeat the reason I signed up to begin with. To make playlists on the go on an easy way.
If I'm to return to my pc every time then I can do it the old way of mp3.
So after several Months of nothingness, I'm switching to TIDAL. This App is amazing and has way more features. I 'm done with Spotify and their "we don't care" policy.
I too experiencing same problem. When I press option 3dot. Spotify app freezes, i have still has this problem after my system update. Please check on it.
With the new MIUI update (MIUI 11.0.5), this bug is fixed on Xiaomi Redmi 6A finally. Thank you Xiaomi, shame on you Spotify! We will never forget that you ignore your users.
ok it seems for the plain 6 model (not 6A) the new update is out today and it is 11.02.0 I hope this fix the problem.
I do blame spotify for the lack of communication but I can't left xiaomi out of this... they messed so many things with the transition to android 9 that I looked for ways to rollback to 8.
Same issue. Can't spotify get on the case? Not true that they are looking into it - 3 months for a multinational corporation to solve a three dot issue. THey just don't care. If it was iPhone it would have been solved the next day.
Can't: delete a song from a playlist, can't add a song presently listening to, can't find out more about a song...very poor. Losing loyalty dear spotify....
@Wouterw28 Clear cache of app and uninstall, reinstall then.
Are you sure you are in the correct version for the correct phone? Maybe the update is not out for your region yet, I got it a few days after the first report here.
Still not working for me either (i dont have a Xiaomi). Anyway to add songs after recently played you can go to One of your playlist, select add songs then tab untill recently player and add it.
I have the same issue. I'm using xiaomi redmi note 8 pro. Since I changed the mobile I'm not able to add songs to my playlist. It crashes instantly on the same moment that I try to click on the three dots.
Funny thing, If I can catch and touch the settings icon before it crash, I can do anything in the app but to see homepage. I play music in this method but still crashing when I try to go the homepage.
I restarted the phone. Not fixed.
I clean the RAM. Not fixed.
I deleted the app and reinstalled it. Not fixed.
I reset my phone, deleted every single bite in it, figure of speech. Not fixed.
There is no update.
I'm already using the premium version so... Will it be fixed? How long will it go?
My crash is just solved thanks to Spotify's last update which is released today. I think this problem is happening to different models and brands of smart phones time to time. Maybe app isn't stable just yet. The more codes of the app get complicated, the more problems happen, so this crashes r just normal?..
This is so frustrating. My device is Doogee S90 pro (Android 9.0) I've tried reinstalling, clean reinstall, restarting and any other thing you could imagine. Last time I got to factory reset my phone, but this time I'm thinking abot cancelling my subscription and star using any other app.
I got this problem on my new Umidigi A5 pro (Android 9), just got premium and can't use this functionality, it simply crashes. Does anyone have a solution?
Mesma coisa aqui. Estou pensando em migrar para o Yt Music, já que ele também tem plano para Universitário e tem bastante musica. Um saco esse erro continuar até agora.
I also found a fix but, it took me a day to work it out but it works. I have a Ulefone Armor 6E and I flashed a custom ROM. True dedication, total waste of time but it works.
I got my brandnew Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro just yesterday and Spotify doesn't work.
It's a pain in...... I use Spotify everyday, I commute everyday and drive like almost 2 hours a day.
My phone has the newest firmware, MiUi Global 11.0.3 and I also have the current Spotify version installed. I already deleted and cleared everything and re installed. I cannot even listen to one second, Spotify will crash instantly. Can somebody help me? I am also a premium member.
Problem still hasn't been resolved after all of this time. It's some kind of rendering issue, that's really all I've been able to find out. At this point it's either negligence, or another case of trying to force users in to using flagship devices.
I'd suggest finding an older version of Spotify. Version 6.3.0.882 works without any hiccup for myself.
My solution was simple. I moved to Amazon unlimited HD, much better quality, no issues with the app and all the music I like. I don't know why they can't fix the app but after giving them 2 months to fix it I'd had enough.
So this bug is not solved since 2019, but still asking for the full monthly fee from the users. Well done Spotify! This is the way to become a premium brand!
Xiaomi Mi9T Pro still having the error with the latest MIUI 12 and the latest Spotify app.
I'm running Ulefone Armor 6E on android 9 and have had this problem about a year now. Reinstalls and phone factory resets don't seem to help. Hope they would fox this soon.
Need help with this as well. Its been going on for awhile now. Not my internet connection, did the clean wipe and reinstalled. The only that temporarily fixes the problem is restarting my phone. But then after 10 mins or so it does it again.
Just so you know - Spotify is informed about this issue and we're looking into it! To that end we would appreciate it if you shared the following info:
Are there more than one Spotify users switching accounts on the device this happens on?
Is there a session in progress ( i.e. is a song/podcast playing) or is the app paused paused?
Thanks in advance and to subscribe to get all updates on this.
No there aren't more than one Spotify user switching accounts on the device. It happens both when there is a session in progress and when the app paused paused.
Doesn't matter when you click the three dots. It just freezes the app. I have to force close it before I can use it again. Also there are no other users on my app.
Furthermore I can't watch the Spotify Wrapped 2020 on my phone because that just instantly crashes the app. The year before it was fine because you could just watch it on PC.
No more users are logged in, doesn't matter if there's a song playing or not. I heard some people had problems with their Wrapped, I don't. Please please please fix this ASAP.

That's it! No solutions till now! That's it, I already said bye to Spotify and migrate to Appl3 Music and I think everyone should do that, au revoir!
Come on. Still the same issue months now. I can't share songs or playlists. It is very annoying. Can you inform us about any progress? Or open source so we might find the issue ourselves. Anyway you just need the backend proprietary.

Mobile: cubot r19. Android 9.0. Spotify Version: 8.5.93.445 Country: Portugal. Clear cache, reinstall APP. Reboot phone + reinstall APP. Only account on this device. App does not freeze when 3 dot is preset: - Liked songs playlist - 3 dot menu of the list (it freezes if pressing 3 dot menu of individual songs of the list - regardless it's playing or not) - If a song/author is found via search before it is played or downloaded (freezes when pressing 3 menu when playing or after download)
App freezes in every other situation: - Pressing 3 dot menu of any playlist (other than liked songs), including personal playlists or daily mixes, or any music inside every playlist. - In every situation a music is playing - When searching for an album and after selection the app freezes either in the 3 dot menu of the album or individual music inside that album. ..........................
To be honest, I have the same issue once. But for may case, it seem to be my phone firmware issue as its happened after I updated the phone. At that time, Spotify trying to solve my problem by switching the app to their staging mode to let them looked at the log they collected. However, Spotify can't find anything. But they asked me to wait and be patient. Well, once I got another update for my phone, I then proceed with the update. And it's solved the problem entirely. So, due to that, I still subscribe Spotify until now.

Can you recreate it with ease, or is it random?
We'll be keeping you updated here on any info we have to pass on, so we'd suggest subscribe to this thread to stay up to speed.
I was part of those who had launched this thread a long time ago. The systematic three dot freeze I experienced concerned a BV9600 Blackview (Mediatek) Android 9 version bought in France from amazon. I tried everything with no result (updating the apk, downgrading, cache emptied...). I even bought another phone as I had other problems as Blackview, as other suppliers of the sort, never does any update of android (even security) once the model has been issued. That is part of the low cost necessities you have to accept for this type of mobile. I recently rooted it and installed the most recent custom ROM AOSP with Gapps for Android 11. The phone is now more vulnerable but updated and spotify works fine on it. As a matter of fact I no longer have the information asked about the maker's first config. For my part I think the three dots problem may be due to a lack of android update of some mobile makers or something in the Blackview/Mediatek android overlay.
Been here since page 6, 2019-09-14;. and the issue STILL persists. I am still having to use an older version of the app on the Umidigi F1.
Device
UMIDIGI F1
Operating System
Android 9, kernel version 4.4.146 App Version: Occurs in all versions beyond 6.3.0.882. Troubleshooting Steps: I have tried multiple versions of the app. I have changed virtually all visual options available in newer versions. The only thing I have not done is try and roll my phone back to Android 8. Context Menues Causing the Crash: Literally all of them. Any context menu, period. Are there more than one Spotify users switching accounts on the device this happens on? No. Is there a session in progress (e.g. is a song or podcast playing) or is the app paused? No. Is the behavior always the same? Yes. Can you recreate it with ease, or is it random? It can easily be recreated, consistently, at all times.
This problem is tiresome, it has been almost three years. I guess I am stuck using older versions of the app until support for them is ending, and in that event I will be forced to end my subscription given the app will be quite literally unusable for me.
This just started happening to me this morning- for a while I was using the menus fine, but then it suddenly just started crashing. I think it happened after I deleted my cache from the settings menu.
The tutorial linked for 'exact version' didn't work- theres no menu on the left anymore.
Troubleshooting steps you've tried so far
Tried restarting app and phone. Read this thread to see if any other measures seemed to work.
Can you tell us in which context menu the issue is happening (e.g. on the top corner of the playlist, on the right corner of the track, or both, etc.)?
Corner of the track within the playlist. Doesn't happen on 'Now Playing' menu.
Are there more than one Spotify users switching accounts on the device this happens on?
Nope
Is there a session in progress (e.g. is a song or podcast playing) or is the app paused?
Yes, for the last 2 years. How can Spotify still not fix it? I have the latest app available, auto update on. Issue is with every version of the app over the last 2 years
I was having this issue while being in offline mode but when I went online the menu worked fine on the first try. Hope it doesn't randomly start happening again it was so annoying.
Login out then back in, deleting and reinstalling the app, emptying the data
Can you tell us in which context menu the issue is happening (e.g. on the top corner of the playlist, on the right corner of the track, or both, etc.)?
Both
Are there more than one Spotify users switching accounts on the device this happens on?
No
Is there a session in progress (e.g. is a song or podcast playing) or is the app paused?
Thanks for reporting this issue to us and for all the info you've provided so far!
The team is currently testing out a fix for this with the latest version, rolled out just recently. To that end, could you perform a clean reinstall and let us know if the issue persists? The linked steps let you start afresh with the latest app version and remove any corrupted files from previous installations. If afterwards the issue persists, we'd appreciate it if you share the exact Spotify version you get displayed at your end.
Keep us posted. We'll be on the lookout for your replies.
Still no improvement at all in 8.6.**bleep**.1029.
Taking way too much time. If this was an IOS issue Spotify would have a full team working on it and it will be fixed in 24 hours. Not 2 years like this
clearing cache, clearing storage, complete uninstall and reinstall, complete power off and power back on, letting the battery completely drain until it shuts off
Can you tell us in which context menu the issue is happening (e.g. on the top corner of the playlist, on the right corner of the track, or both, etc.)?
individual track's ... in all locations (bottom of the app for current song, in liked/other playlists, Spotify-generated playlists - everywhere there's a ... for an individual track
Are there more than one Spotify users switching accounts on the device this happens on?
No
Is there a session in progress (e.g. is a song or podcast playing) or is the app paused?
Happens when a song/podcast is playing as well as if it's paused. Also when opening app and the last played song is still there, paused.
Is the behavior always the same?
Yes. Has been this way for a few updates now. Apparently a few years based on the comments.
Can you recreate it with ease, or is it random?
Ease. Happens EVERY time regardless of if phone was recently powered on and Spotify just started/immediately loaded or if it's been playing awhile.
Nearly 1500 votes since 08/2019 - how is this not fixed yet?
Mine is doing the same thing but sometimes the app is just crashing towards the end of a song or automatically pausing. I'm on the premium version and have been for years but it's making the paid app almost unusable
Our teams have worked backstage on fixing the specific issue that this thread relates to-namely, the app crashing whenever the three dots menu is open.
We can see from the recent posts that general app instability or crashing is reported. As each issue needs to be investigated on its own accord, we'd like to ask once more if anyone is still experiencing the app crashing specifically after trying to open the menu.
If you do experience this, please share with us a short video recording of it, together with your device data(make/model of your device and exact OS version).
We're constantly checking the thread in order to gather more information. We can see that this has been resolved for most folks with common android configurations.
It looks like some specific ROM modifications are still experiencing this issue.
Based on this, we'll be freezing the votes but we'll continue gathering info on affected devices to see if there's anything else that can be done.
As such, if you still experience this, please post your device info (exact phone model, OS version) and a video recording of the issue so we can pass this forward.
Still happening, just didn't want to figure out how to make and then upload videos for multiple phones. The primary two are Umidigi A5 Pro (Android 9) and Moto G7 Optimo (Android 10). But it's simple to describe. The "..." on a song (regardless if it's the song's album art page or in a playlist/library/search result), the second you click it the app stops working immediately. It doesn't open a dropdown or anything just immediately crashes the app.
We want to confirm that we're still monitoring the thread on a regular basis. Data shows that reports on this across our different channels, including this very thread have reduced. This does seem to confirm that the issue seems to be resolved for most users. Nevertheless, we do acknowledge there're some Android ROMs that still experience this crash.
This unfortunately is very model specific and has to do with the peculiarities of the ROM modifications in place. We are aware that some MIUI based phones experience this for example.
We'll leave this thread open for a bit longer to continue to gather data on affected devices, but there most likely will not be much we can do to resolve this for 100% of users without major app changes.
From what we can see backstage, UMIDIGI and as mentioned previously some MIUI based models are affected. None of the reports we've received after changes were implemented to remedy this 2 months ago are from the range of Android ROMs that we've confirmed to have been fixed. Even if on the surface a particular device might seem like it's using a stock Android distro, there can be many modifications that have been implemented in the background. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to look into every specific Android ROM in the market.
It is in our best interest to improve compatibility with Spotify on as many devices as possible and we'll continue to do our best to improve it.
However, as the conversation here in this thread has stopped being productive and we moderators already had to remove posts for abusive and offensive language, we will be closing this thread.
We know you might not trust us, but we do feel it's very unfortunate that we weren't able to find a one-size-fits-all solution in this case and that we can't improve the music listening experience for those affected. In that sense, your frustration is only justified and fair.
