✨ Last month, we hosted a very special virtual event: World Food Programme’s Innovation Week which brought together colleagues across field, country and headquarter operations as well as external stakeholders, other United Nations agencies and key partners. Titled “Innovation Rooted in #Humanity,” this three‑day series of two‑hour sessions each day brought together colleagues from across the globe to explore how country‑led innovations, tools such as artificial intelligence and collaboration are transforming #humanitarian assistance. 💡 On Day One, we highlighted how country offices are WFP’s true engines of innovation. Our colleagues shared inspiring examples of how embedding innovation into strategy, supported by strong #leadership and driven by co-creation, can deliver remarkable results. A story of courage, self-worth and financial independence. Today we celebrate Angelique on International Day of Persons with Disabilities. 💙 Angelique, 30, is a mother of two from Rwanda who was born without one arm. For years, she faced discouragement and stigma, often perceived as someone who could only rely on support. These negative perceptions deeply affected her confidence and limited her vision for the future. That changed in June 2025 when Angelique joined a youth savings group through the SheCan project a WFP initiative that supports women and men to save, access fair and affordable finance, and grow their businesses. With training in financial literacy and inclusion, she discovered her own strength and potential. Step by step, she began saving, borrowing responsibly and investing. 💰 Today, Angelique runs a flourishing small business selling maize and roasted corn. She provides for her family, inspires her community and shows that with opportunity and support, everyone can thrive. 🌱 Her dream? To become one of the most successful businesswomen in her area. And with her determination, we believe she will. 91 young people with disabilities are part of SheCan savings groups - each one a story of resilience and possibility, just like Angelique’s.
