While people of any racial or ethnic group can have alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (Alpha-1), its prevalence is significantly higher among those with European ancestry. In fact, approximately 1 in 25 people of European descent carry at least one abnormal copy of the gene associated with the condition. Despite its genetic frequency, Alpha-1 remains largely underdiagnosed for years. Many individuals experience symptoms without receiving a proper diagnosis, delaying access to care and increasing the risk of serious complications affecting both the lungs and the liver. Raising awareness is essential to ensure that patients living with AATD receive timely support and an accurate diagnosis. #Alpha1Awareness

Congratulations to Dr. Morgane Cheminant, hematologist at the University Hospital Necker Enfants-Malades (Paris), on receiving the ASPIRE Award 2025 at the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) EHA SIOPE congress in Vienna. The award was presented by Dr. Silvia Sánchez-Ramón on behalf of the jury.   Dr. Cheminant’s project aims to investigate the relationship between inborn errors of immunity and lymphomas by comparing cases in affected patients with those in immunocompetent individuals. Supporting families when they need it most 💛 At Grifols, our mission to improve lives goes beyond the medicines we make - it’s reflected in how we show up for our communities. This fall, we were honored to support Ronald McDonald House through two meaningful initiatives: 🏠 On November 6, the J.A. Grifols Foundation presented a $15,000 Adopt A Room grant to Ronald McDonald House Alabama, funding a large guest suite for one year. This space will offer comfort and connection to families with children receiving treatment at Birmingham-area hospitals. 🍽️ In October, our global Plasma Procurement & Biosupplies leadership team volunteered at Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Triangle, in North Carolina, preparing dinner for families staying at the House while their children received care at Duke Hospital. Grifols also supports Ronald McDonald House Charities in Los Angeles, California and Melbourne, Australia. The German competent authority, the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, has approved our new therapy for the treatment of congenital (CFD) and acquired fibrinogen deficiency (AFD), caused by surgery or trauma for adults, children and adolescents (0-18 years). Commercialized as Prufibry® in Germany, this approval marks the first marketing authorization for our fibrinogen concentrate in Europe, following a decentralized regulatory procedure. Austria and Spain are expected to follow in 2026. This first approval marks an important milestone in our journey to make this medicine available in markets around the world.
