Polyamide: Essential for Food Safety and Sustainability At UBE, we stand with the Advanced Packaging Association in showing that polyamide plays a vital role in reducing food waste and ensuring safety, while being recyclable. Together with partners across the value chain—and now the Finnish meat industry companies—we advocate for a balanced approach that combines functionality and recyclability. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Advanced packaging isn’t just about materials—it’s about ensuring food safety, reducing waste, and supporting sustainability. The EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) sets ambitious recyclability targets. While these goals are important, they also raise concerns about the future of key components like 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗲 — 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 that helps preserve shelf life and prevent food waste. 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 - as per valued scientific based studies. At APA, we believe functionality and recyclability must go hand in hand. Eliminating essential materials without considering their role in reducing environmental impact could lead to unintended consequences like food waste. Together with the Finnish Meat companies Atria Plc, HKFoods and Snellmanin Lihanjalostus Oy, we’re advocating for a balanced approach that safeguards packaging performance while meeting sustainability goals.
