More than three decades after his death, Jerry Garcia has landed his first placement on Billboard‘s Kid Albums chart. The Grateful Dead guitarist’s collaborative bluegrass album with mandolinist David Grisman Not for Kids Only entered the chart at No. 25 following its first-ever vinyl pressing in late November.
Originally released in October 1993, approximately two years before Garcia’s passing, Not for Kids Only features bluegrass and folk interpretations of classic children’s songs, including “Jenny Jenkins”, “Freight Train”, “There Ain’t No Bugs On Me”, “Shenandoah”, “Teddy Bears’ Picnic”, and more. The cover art was hand-drawn by Garcia himself.
This latest chart appearance continues a string of posthumous placements for Garcia in 2025. Earlier this year, Jerry Garcia Band‘s Live at the Warfield February 28, March 1 & 2, 1991 debuted at No. 35 on the Top Album Sales chart in August, marking his 37th entry on that ranking. Additionally, another Garcia-Grisman collaboration, Bare Bones Vol. 2: Other Tunes and Arrangements, appeared on the Bluegrass Albums chart at No. 11. It also coincides with news that the Grateful Dead claimed the Guinness World Record for the most Top 40 albums to chart on the Billboard 200.
The new deluxe vinyl edition of Not for Kids Only joins recent holiday favorites on the Kid Albums chart, including A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. The album features newly remastered audio and four previously unreleased bonus tracks. According to the product description, “this collection of music is recommended for anyone who is, or ever was, a kid.”
The album is available now as a 2LP set on Black Vinyl in Gatefold Jacket and other formats. Listen to the album below, and support Live For Live Music by ordering using this affiliate link.
