One of the most memorable clients I managed once told me that her symptoms were that “𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘮𝘦𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳-𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯.” She said it in Yoruba: “𝘋𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘵𝘢, 𝘰 𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘮𝘪 𝘮𝘪, 𝘮𝘪 𝘰 𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘰.” At that time, the hospital I worked in was understaffed, and I was stretched thin with long hours and frequent overnight calls. I was also stressed, but I could still work. That day, I realized the value of good health in a more practical sense - not just the medical school “theory” I had been taught. Today, I am grateful for good health. Good health is not just about the absence of illness, but the freedom to embrace each day with vitality and vigor. It is the foundation upon which we build our aspirations, nurture our relationships, and create lasting memories. I explained to my client that “𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬”, that we need to schedule rest into our “busy agenda.” You can be busy resting! I managed her well, and after a few weeks, she returned to my consulting room full of life, smiling, and saying something like: “𝘋𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘐𝘴𝘢𝘢𝘤, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦. 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺.” Good health is the thread that weaves through every aspect of our lives, empowering us to strive for greatness and to be there for others in their time of need. Today, I celebrate the gift of health in 2025, and I encourage us all to never take it for granted. #Day5 #GratitudeWithIsaac #GratefulForHealth

Growth isn’t just a concept, it’s our culture. We believe that when one person learns, the entire ecosystem evolves. Reflecting back at the Africa Global Mental Health Institute (AGMHI) 2025 Conference, we see this belief in action through the journey of Peace Oregbesan The conference explored the theme “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Transgenerational Trauma in Africa”, a topic that challenges us to rethink how mental health is shaped not just by personal experiences, but by histories, narratives, and inherited wounds that span generations. One of the conference highlights was Peace’s presentation, “Public Perception on Generational Transmission of Mental Illness: A Qualitative Analysis of Twitter Comments,” which examined how digital narratives shape what people believe about mental illness. Her study emphasized a critical need, clear, sensitive, and accessible mental health education in the digital spaces where conversations are already happening, to truly support understanding and healing. Every discussion, presentation, and interaction strengthened the knowledge we carry forward, informing our programs, shaping our advocacy, and amplifying youth voices in mental health spaces. The conference also announced the 2026 theme: Youth Mental Health, a direction that mirrors our mission and speaks directly to the communities we serve. This 90-second recap captures more than moments, it captures movement. ✔️Movement toward understanding. ✔️Toward collaboration. ✔️Toward mental health systems that make room for young people’s realities. At SRHIN, growth begins with people. And when one person grows, we all move forward. If you’re passionate about advancing mental health for young Africans and want to be part of this journey, there are opportunities to contribute as a volunteer with SRHIN. Tomorrow, the world comes together for Global Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to generosity and impact. A day when individuals, communities, and organizations choose to invest in change that truly transforms lives. For us at SRHIN, Global Giving is more than a date on the calendar. It is an opportunity to shine a light on the challenges so many women and families face and the meaningful difference your support can create. This year, we are rallying support for the Beta Mama Pikin Project, our initiative designed to give pregnant women and new mothers in underserved communities access to the essentials they need for a safe, healthy start. Every day, too many women walk miles for a simple check-up. Too many newborns miss basic care that could protect their lives. Too many families are left without the tools, knowledge, and support they deserve. But tomorrow, you can be part of the change. Your support helps place maternal health essentials in the hands of mothers who genuinely need them. It brings comfort where there is worry. Strength where there is fear. Hope where it has been lost. Global Giving is tomorrow and your kindness can rewrite a mother’s story. Tomorrow, let’s show what community can do. Let’s stand with women. Let’s stand for safe motherhood. Let’s give with purpose. Because every mother deserves care. Today, on World AIDS Day, we pause to remember the lives affected by HIV/AIDS, honor those we have lost, and stand together in the fight against stigma, inequality, and misinformation. This year’s theme, “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” calls us to rebuild stronger, remove barriers, and ensure no one is left behind. World AIDS Day is a global reminder that awareness saves lives, education empowers communities, and every person, regardless of background or ability, deserves access to accurate information and compassionate care. As we reflect on this day, we shine a light on young people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, including those with disabilities who are too often overlooked, unheard, and underserved. Through our INCLUDE Project, we are working to create safe, inclusive spaces where young people with disabilities can access the information, support, and protection they need. Because HIV/AIDS awareness should never depend on ability, opportunity, or circumstance. To the teachers and caregivers who show up every day with patience, commitment, and resilience, thank you. You are the connection between learning and empowerment, and your dedication ensures that these students receive the clarity, support, and confidence they need to live healthier, informed lives. We see you, and we sincerely appreciate your work. This World AIDS Day, let us choose inclusion. Let us choose protection. Let us choose education. Let us transform the AIDS response by making it accessible to all. Together, we can build a future where disability is never a barrier to HIV/AIDS knowledge, care, or dignity. #WorldAIDSDay #WAD2025 #OvercomingDisruption #TransformingTheAIDSResponse #HIVAIDSAwareness #YouthHealth #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveEducation #SRHIN #INCLUDEProject #HealthEquity #EndTheStigma #PublicHealth #AccessForAll #GlobalHealth International AIDS Society AIDS Healthcare Foundation World Health Organization AIDS Concern Testing Service

Access to healthcare saves lives, yet so many people are still held back by distance, cost, and limited resources. This Giving Tuesday, we’re choosing to change that. Your donation helps expand access, strengthen community health programs, and create pathways to safer, healthier futures. The Brave Heart Project continues to change the way young people understand and respond to their mental well-being. Through our recent task-shifting sessions, students were given a space where difficult conversations became possible, conversations about mental health, stress, substance use, and the choices that shape their futures. What’s emerging is more than awareness. Students are now identifying their emotions more clearly, asking for help when they need it, and applying practical tools to navigate everyday pressures. Their interactions are different, more thoughtful, more supportive, and more intentional. The outcomes are clear: better self-awareness, improved decision-making, and a growing culture where mental health is not ignored but addressed with confidence. The Brave Heart Project is demonstrating that when young people are equipped early, they don’t just absorb information, they reshape their outlook and influence their peers. The work continues, and so do the shifts we’re seeing. This is how change begins, quietly, consistently, and with effects that last. #BraveHeartProject #MentalHealthMatters #YouthEmpowerment #TaskShifting #MentalWellbeing #SubstanceUseAwareness #StressManagement #HealthEducation #SafeSpaces #BuildingResilience #PositiveYouthDevelopment #CommunityHealth #EarlyIntervention #HealthyDecisions #SRHIN Grand Challenges Canada Being Initiative Slum and Rural Health Initiative Sierra Leone (SRHIN-SL) Africa Global Mental Health Institute (AGMHI)
