From Community to Career: Lorena’s Story of Growth Through Technology

Lorena's journey with Senior Planet in Miami has given her both the digital skills and confidence to expand her life-coaching practice.

Lorena Jiron began attending the Senior Planet center in Wynwood in early 2024 after relocating to Miami. She initially came seeking community, but quickly realized that Senior Planet technology classes could help her grow her freelancing career. As a life coach with over ten years of experience, Lorena was ready to expand her reach—but needed to build her digital skills in order to be able to independently run virtual sessions.

Through Senior Planet, she gained the confidence and tech knowledge to run virtual sessions on her own and better manage and promote her life-coaching business. Her story was even highlighted in a Kiplinger Personal Finance article titled “A Guide to Launching a Successful Business After 50” about what it takes to be an older entrepreneur.  In the article, Lorena is quoted saying “Before I took the classes, I had to rely on my daughters for tech help, and they’re very busy people. The digital training gives me independence and autonomy.”

In September 2025, several months after collaborating on the video profile below, she facilitated a four-part Spanish-language series on seniorplanet.org focused on self-care and empowerment after 60 and hosted classes in-person at the Senior Planet center in Miami.

Lorena’s journey with Senior Planet has given her both the digital skills and confidence to expand her life-coaching practice. She’s found independence, community, and new opportunities to share her expertise. Click here or scroll down to watch a short video about Lorena, which is also available with Spanish subtitles. This video was supported by a generous grant from Comcast to help share the real stories of older adults who are learning new digital skills at every age.
