For older adults who aren’t digital natives, learning new technology can feel intimidating. To address this, OATS is proud to launch a new collaboration with Tracfone, a leading prepaid no-contract wireless service provider on the Verizon 5G network. Together, the two brands are launching a series of workshops as part of Verizon’s responsible business digital wellness initiative to equip seniors with the essential technology skills they need to navigate the digital world with confidence. The collaboration is part of Tracfone’s mission to provide reliable and simple mobile service, alongside resources tailored to the specific needs of older adults.
As part of the collaboration, OATS and Tracfone will host both in-person and virtual learning sessions, including three free Digital Wellness Workshops in cities across the U.S., starting with Plattsburgh, Miami and Denver. The workshops will be available at Senior Planet centers, with select sessions also presented online at seniorplanet.org. Programs will cover a range of essential topics for navigating the digital landscape including smartphone usage, privacy management, online safety and tools to stay connected with loved ones. These topics are increasingly important as 1 in 3 adults aged 50-plus feel they lack strong digital literacy skills, according to AARP‘s 2025 Tech Trends Report.
As part of the workshops, participants will learn skills such as sending text messages and scanning QR codes with a smartphone camera. The classes, which cover both iPhone and Android devices, also review best practices for identifying online scams and keeping one’s devices and information secure.
