Important: If a professional has already installed your thermostat, refer to How to set up your thermostat after professional installation. This setup article explains how to add your thermostat to the Google Home app. If you follow the steps in the main installation articles, you might override important settings that the Pro installer already configured for you.

Nest Thermostat
Nest thermostats don’t have a touch screen. Use the touch bar on the right side to control your thermostat. Swipe up to make it warmer, swipe down to make it cooler, and tap to confirm. The screen shows you how many minutes until it reaches the temperature you want.
- Tap the touch bar to bring up the menu.
- Swipe up or down to select an option.
- Tap the touch bar again to confirm your selection.
For Nest Learning Thermostats (4th gen), turn the ring up to make it a bit warmer, and turn it down to make it a bit cooler.

When you set up your Nest thermostat, it has a default schedule for your Comfort, Eco, and Sleep temperatures. You can change these settings and find your set schedules in the Google Home app.

If you move into a home that already has a Nest thermostat or Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) installed, follow these steps to remove the previous owner’s settings.
- If you can, ask the previous owner to remove the thermostat. If this isn’t possible, reset the thermostat to factory default. You may also need to do an account reset on your thermostat before you can pair it to yourself.
- Set up the thermostat and add it to your account.
Nest Thermostat E and Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen or earlier)
