AP Intelligence, a new offering from The Associated Press, fills a critical gap in the world’s data infrastructure, leveraging the global news organization’s factual, eyewitness journalism as structured, verified data to power the information sources of the future.
The data offering will help enable organizations across a wide range of sectors to enrich their models, deepen their analysis and make sharper decisions in a rapidly changing information ecosystem.
“For nearly 180 years, The Associated Press has been the backbone of the media industry, bearing witness as the original source of firsthand reporting around the world,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Kristin Heitmann. “AP Intelligence is the next evolution of this mission, transforming the breadth and depth of AP’s sweeping, nonpartisan news report into powerful data. This offering is essential for all enterprises that need contextual and real-time understanding of the events shaping our world today.”
The data comprises AP-owned breaking and archival news—across all coverage areas—in multiple languages and formats, including text, photos, video and audio. AP’s data is delivered, along with comprehensive metadata, in a consistent, machine-readable schema.
By leveraging AP’s real-time and archival news data, AP Intelligence will help enable organizations to:
- Derive insights from AP’s nonpartisan news corpus.
- Train or fine-tune AI models, improve retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems and enhance algorithms.
- Continuously monitor global, national and regional events for enterprise needs.
- Make their own dashboards, analytics tools, financial models and virtual assistants smarter.
- Improve media monitoring and compliance platforms.
With 230 locations in nearly 100 countries, AP produces 5,000 individual pieces of distinct content every day. Four billion people see journalism from AP every day.
AP Intelligence builds on the news organization’s success in reaching new and non-media audiences with its factual news and information. The news organization in 2023 was among the earliest publishers to establish a collaboration with OpenAI to display AP journalism in response to user questions. AP expanded its longstanding relationship with Google earlier this year to deliver its factual journalism on the Gemini app. And more recently, AP also expanded its relationship with Microsoft as a launch partner for its Publisher Content Marketplace.
