Warfare (A24)November 24, 2025 at 12:23 pm #1206380420I am so surprised with how well No Other Choice did, I believe it is a serious contender for BP. Also worth pointing out how Frankenstein and Wicked did very well despite somehow lukewarm reviews.
Neon scoring two entries with Sirat and Secret Agent (that just got to their plataform last week) and one with It Was Just An Accident and Sentimental Value (a movie with massive campaign) chocked be a bit. Worth saying that even though a Sirat is not my favorite movie of the year the sound and soundtrack nominations are so deserved.
I expected Sentimental Value to get casting and editing nominations. Surprise they were left out. Hope that means something for Neon and they start giving more investment to their other contenders. No Other Choice and Secret Agent are incredible.

A House of Dynamite (Netflix)November 24, 2025 at 4:48 pm #1206380560It’s worth mentioning that two years ago Anatomy of a Fall received Critics Choice noms only for Best Actress, Young Actor and Foreign Film; if CC had had shortlists back then I’ll bet Anatomy would’ve also missed editing and casting there, just like Sentimental Value, yet it went on to get into editing at the Oscars and casting at the BAFTAs. Meanwhile The Zone of Interest only received a Foreign Film nom, as did I’m Still Here the following year. CC is slow on the uptake with foreign language contenders.

True, but what really surprises me is the fact that No Other Choice and Secret Agent resonated more with the voters. If all foreign films were snubbed I would agree, but how it happened was just surprising, let’s wait for the Oscar shortlist to see how it goes.

I expect Lee Byung-hun getting a Globes nomination for No Other Choice (and after pre-list maybe even CCA) and I would also love to see nominations for It Was Just An Accident and Secret Agent, like Mariam Afshari for drama and Alice Carvalho or Tania Maria in supporting for example.
Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones getting CCA nominations is a real possibility in my view and that could really help them.

Add to the foreign bunch Sirât’s Sergi López. He has just been nominated for the European Film Awards (the movie is up to the top 4 categories)

Wagner Moura
At this point, he’s so widely predicted that I think the surprise would be if he missed.

My guess is they simply weren’t given access to see it in advance of its release. It’s kinda similar to what happened with Star Wars: The Force Awakens 10 years ago when they weren’t able to see it in time for nominations, before they belatedly added it to their Best Picture lineup (but no other categories) in a cynical attempt to gain higher ratings. I hope they don’t pull that shit this year.

The Oscar twins said it hasn’t screened yet, but can still potentially be nominated as a write-in.
