The numbers jump out for their absolute ludicrousness, like something from a baseball video game with the cheat codes turned on: Four batters hitting 17-for-24, with 17 runs batted in over two games. The mercy rule enacted for each. But for Nevada’s team in the 68th annual Little League World Series—the first time our state has been represented—that seems to be business as usual as the squad steamrolls toward possibly winning the whole thing this weekend. (As of press time, they’re 2-0 in a double-elimination tournament, and took on Philadelphia and phenom pitcher Mo’ne Davis Wednesday night.) What strikes us most about these kids isn’t the fact that they’re such prolific hitters, or that eight of them can pitch a strike. It’s that, despite the glaring spotlight (ratings for Sunday’s matchup beat several MLB games), they really seem to be having a good time out there. And that’s something to be proud of.
