Agricultural workers sustain Ohio’s food supply, yet often experience dangerous conditions, wage theft, and barriers that keep them from speaking up. ABLE provides free civil legal services to protect the rights of workers whose labor benefits our communities. With this recently filed lawsuit on behalf of brothers Hector and Mario Rocha, we continue our longstanding commitment to ensuring fair wages, safe housing, and workplace justice for farmworkers across the region. The Federal Trade Commission has ordered Greystar, the nation’s largest property management company, to return $24 million to tenants harmed by hidden and deceptive rental housing fees. This action comes as renters nationwide face rising costs and growing affordability challenges. Advocates, including the National Consumer Law Center, praised the settlement and the FTC’s commitment to advancing a rule that would curb unfair rental-housing junk fees and increase transparency for tenants. At ABLE, we regularly hear from tenants struggling with unexpected charges that make safe, stable housing even further out of reach. This national action is an important step toward fairness in rental markets and stronger protections for the people we serve.
