A small test with a big impact. Pictured here, our team opens a hydrant, measures its flow rate and records pressures from nearby hydrants. These readings feed into advanced modeling software to verify and fine-tune system performance. Why does this matter? Accurate water models help communities plan for growth, maintain fire protection and deliver safe, reliable service to residents. #BNformed

Restoring Resilience in Newport News! B&N’s Christine Circle Channel Improvements project transformed an eroding 200-foot tidal stream into a stable, long-lasting stormwater system — complete with a double-drop boulder cross-vane outfall and modular retaining walls designed to protect nearby homes. Working within a tight easement and limited access points, our team engineered a solution that strengthened the shoreline, improved water quality, and safeguarded surrounding properties. One of many stream restoration efforts for the City of Newport News, this project supports the health of the Chesapeake Bay and the communities that call it home.

Hurricanes don’t just test infrastructure — they test ecosystems. On this episode of Infrastructure Insights, B&N’s Carl Spirio and John Kilgore, P.E. and K2M Design’s Heather Carruthers and Scott Maloney discuss how engineers are working side-by-side to restore stormwater flow and protect the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge after Hurricane Ian as well as how these methods can be applied to other parks. From new culverts to mangrove recovery, click the link below to find out how we’re assisting ecosystems in becoming more resilient to more powerful storms. https://lnkd.in/gCExSYeb #Stormwater #CivilEngineering #HurricaneResilience #BNformed
