We bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries
About us
charity: water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people around the world. Since 2006, we've funded more than 186,000 water projects in 29 countries. When complete, these projects will provide clean, safe drinking water for more than 20.3 million people. 703 million people don’t have access to clean drinking water, that's one in ten of us. Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. The good news: there are simple solutions, from deep drilled wells to water filtration systems. With the help of 2 million+ donors and individual fundraisers, we've raised over $1B for both water and operations, forming a strong force against the water crisis. Join us!

When conflict destroyed the water system in his village, Haleka went to get help. That single act set a chain in motion 👇 💛 Haleka showed up for his community. 🔩 Our local partners showed up with the expertise to rebuild. 💰 And donors showed up with funds that made full restoration possible. Clean water is flowing again. And it's proof of what’s possible when people show up for one another. This #GivingTuesday, we’re honoring people like Haleka who show up for one another, even when it’s hardest. #charitywater #cleanwater #globaldevelopment

What does “showing up” look like in a year defined by crisis? 👇 In Northern Ethiopia, it looked like local leaders choosing to keep going and a global community (you!) choosing to stand with them. In 2020, our local partner the Relief Society of Tigray (REST) planned to complete 206 new water projects serving nearly 48,000 people. But when conflict erupted that November, everything changed. Safety became uncertain. Materials became scarce. So REST shifted from expansion to triage, restoring water access for rural communities with the highest number of displaced families. But they couldn’t do it alone. Every repaired pipe, every replaced part, every safe step forward required resources. And donors around the world stepped in to bridge that gap. This film shows how one man showed up for his village, how the REST team showed up for an entire community, and how you showed up, too. Because this is what your support makes possible. What if supporting small businesses had nothing to do with shopping? And everything to do with clean water? 👇 This Small Business Saturday, we’re reframing what it means to help entrepreneurs succeed. For millions of women around the world, the biggest barrier to running a business isn’t marketing, financing, or competition. It’s time lost gathering water. It’s kitchens that can’t stay clean. It’s the lack of a basic resource every business needs. Clean water gives: 🕜Hours back in the day 🍞Safe, healthy work environment 🌱Space for businesses to grow When you fund clean water, you fuel small business growth on a global scale. Consider supporting small businesses across the globe by funding clean water projects at charitywater.org

What if every futures trade could help fund a future with clean water? This year, Cboe Global Markets showed us how. Through their Liquid and Linked campaign, Cboe pledged $3 for every #IBHY and #IBIG future contract traded July 1st through September 30, 2025. The result? $221,000 raised to bring clean water to communities around the world. A liquidity-based campaign became a catalyst for clean water access. On November 13, we joined Cboe on their Chicago trading floor to celebrate the impact of this effort. And while the jumbo check was big, the impact behind it is even bigger. Every dollar will help fund life-changing water projects for families who’ve waited far too long for clean water. We’re grateful to the Cboe team, iShares by BlackRock, S&P Dow Jones Indices, and to the traders who made every trade count. When markets meet mission, incredible things can happen.

In one of the driest places on Earth, a simple idea is changing how communities prepare for drought. In India’s Thar Desert, Devi and her family use a rainwater harvesting tank next to their home. During the short monsoon season, the tank captures and stores rainwater to create a reliable, year-round supply of clean water when the desert stays dry. It’s a small scale solution with global relevance. Because when communities can depend on clean water, everything becomes possible: 👉 Health 👉 Food Security 👉 Stability At charity: water, 100% of public donations go directly to clean water projects worldwide. Each one is built with local partners, designed for long-term reliability, and sustained by the communities themselves. Clean water isn’t just a part of the solution. It’s where the solution begins. #charitywater #CleanWater #SocialImpact #WaterSecurity #DroughtResilience

What happens when a waterpark named after one of the driest places on Earth decides to tackle the global water crisis? You get one of the most on-brand, impactful partnerships we’ve ever seen. In 2023, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions committed to transform One Million Lives by bringing clean and safe drinking water to communities across Africa. And by 2025, they’re already well on their way. 💧Over $10 million donated 💧1,200+ water projects funded 💧200,000+ lives changed. Kalahari is named after the Kalahari Desert, which stretches across Southern Africa. The name comes from the Tswana word for “the great thirst.” Now? Ending thirst has become their mission. 🤝 Kalahari brings clean water to rural communities, schools, and health centers. 🤝 Kalahari creates immersive in-resort experiences where every guest plays a role. 🤝 Kalahari turns family vacations into global impact. This isn’t just generosity. It’s what it looks like when a brand brings its identity to life through purpose. And we’re proud to help make it happen. At charity: water, we build brand partnerships that feel personal, purposeful, and creatively alive. Because the most powerful campaigns don’t just raise money. ✅ They move people. ✅ They build culture. ✅ And they prove that doing good can be great business. To the next brand reading this: we’d love to build something just as meaningful with you. scott harrison Ashley Mucek Makena Cunningham #cleanwater #brandpartnerships #charitywater #kalahariresorts #csr #socialimpact #marketingwithpurpose

Did you hear the news? We just won a Bronze Clio at The Clios. And the spot that earned it doesn’t look or feel like your typical social-good campaign 👇 We asked a simple question: What happens when the water you expect isn’t there? So we created three scenes that start out perfectly normal…until they aren’t: A child sprinting toward a slip-n-slide…until there’s nothing to slide on. A diner waiting for morning coffee…only to get a mug of dry grounds. A professional diver soaring toward a pool…that’s completely empty. Each moment begins normally until something feels off. Suddenly, the missing water is impossible to ignore. When we take water for granted, its absence is jarring. And for millions of people, the missing water in these scenes isn’t fiction. It’s daily life. That’s the reality charity: water is working to change with supporters like you. Through our 100% Model, every public donation goes directly to fund clean water projects in communities that need it most. Because water changes everything. Watch one of the spots below: https://lnkd.in/ec-XMgEZ And a huge congratulations to the incredible group of creatives, storytellers, and partners who brought that message to life.
