  • Small Business Saturday may be over…but we are celebrating our local businesses all year round! ✨ Small businesses are an important part of our community. So, each month, we will be highlighting local businesses and sharing their stories with you. 📣Meet Martinez & Walker, Inc. Martinez & Walker, Inc. was founded in 1980 by Gary Walker and Maria Martinez. The firm has changed ownership over the years and is currently led by Owner and President Rubén, who joined the company in 2001.    Some of the services they offer include tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll for small businesses, document apostille services, authorization letters, translation, and much more.   Martinez & Walker, Inc. largely serves the Latino community, with many of their clients residing in Redwood City, North Fair Oaks, and other parts of the Peninsula. They are proud to have served some clients for decades, often working with second- and third-generation family members. 🤝   While the high cost of living in the Peninsula has led some clients to relocate to the Central Valley, many continue to return to work with Martinez & Walker, Inc. to prepare their taxes and other services.    Rubén shares that at Martinez & Walker, Inc., “It feels like family. We know our clients well… that’s why they feel comfortable coming to us. There is a great deal of trust.” ❤️   As we approach tax season, Martinez & Walker, Inc. encourage you to work with established, local tax preparers. From their experience, seasonal tax preparers are largely active for a brief period. When issues arise later in the year, some clients don’t know who to turn to and will reach out to Martinez & Walker for support.   Martinez & Walker, Inc. also strongly believes in investing in the community! If you have the opportunity, support small businesses and choose services based here in Redwood City as doing so strengthens the local economy. 📍 2950 Middlefield Rd 🌐 martinez-walker.com 📞(650) 367-1067 📱 @martinezwalker4251 #SmallBusinessSaturday #ShopLocal #RWCMeansBusiness

  • All month long, we’ve been sharing the stories of local businesses here in Redwood City. And now, Small Business Saturday is finally here! 🎉   Don’t stay indoors shopping online. Go out and explore Redwood City! Our local shops have it all: cool art, books, plants, home goods, clothing, and so much more. 🛍️   Redwood City’s shopping scene has something for everyone, with unique items you can only find at our small businesses.   And to close out our November features, we’re shining a spotlight on Redwood Trading Post! 🏕️   🔦Spotlight: Redwood Trading Post    Redwood Trading Post was founded in 1952 by Joe and Tessie Weber who fled Nazi Germany just before WWII. Their journey took them to Shanghai, China–one of the few places open to immigration during the war– where they met, fell in love, and married.    After several years in Bolivia, they eventually made their way to the United States and built the Redwood Trading Post from the ground up.    Today, the store specializes in outdoor specialty clothing and equipment for hiking, backpacking, and travel. From sleeping bags and tents to binoculars, headlamps, and hiking boots, Redwood Trading Post has everything you need for your next adventure.    They also carry the largest selection of work clothing and footwear on the Peninsula.   If you stop by the store, you will be greeted by Randy Weber, who continues his family’s legacy, along with buyer and manager Jim Hornibrook, who has been with Redwood Trading Post since 1989, and cashier Annie Szeto, who joined the team in 1997.   For decades, Redwood Trading Post has thrived due to the amazing loyalty of the local community. They are deeply grateful for your continued support in the era of big-box stores and online shopping.    This holiday season, Redwood Trading Post invites you to support local businesses that keep our community strong! ♥️   📍 1455 Veterans Blvd 📞 (650) 363-2033 🌐 redwoodtradingpost.com   #SmallBusinessSaturday #ShopLocal #RWCMeansBusiness

  • Redwood City’s City Council has selected Patrick Heisinger to serve as its next City Manager, pending City Council approval of an employment agreement at the November 24, 2025 City Council Meeting. If approved, Heisinger will be promoted from his current role as Assistant City Manager and assume the role of City Manager on December 31, 2025, following the planned retirement of current City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz on December 30. The City Council led a competitive recruitment process with support from an executive search firm, including thorough candidate evaluations and multiple rounds of interviews. Community and staff input were among the factors that helped inform the Council’s final decision. “Patrick is a seasoned local government executive who knows Redwood City well,” said Mayor Elmer Martínez Saballos. “He has helped shape the important decisions and long-term planning efforts that keep Redwood City moving forward. Thanks to City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz and her team, the City is on solid ground, and Patrick is well-positioned to continue that momentum.” To read the full news release, please click here: https://lnkd.in/gis--3-M.

  • Every Saturday, we’re celebrating the small businesses that keep our community thriving. Today’s Spotlight: Whearley & Co. 🏡✨ Natalie and Cliff co-founded Whearley & Co. with a simple but powerful idea: that home should be a place of deep connection—beautiful, functional, and built to last. Their journey started in real estate and evolved into a desire to help people not just find homes but truly make them. “Everything we do is about honoring craftsmanship, celebrating natural materials, and helping our clients create spaces they feel deeply connected to," says Natalie. Over the years, Whearley & Co.’s offerings have grown to reflect that vision: from guiding families through buying and selling, to thoughtfully renovating homes, to curating timeless goods for everyday living in the interiors shop here in Redwood City. This holiday season, Whearley & Co. invites the community to slow down and shop with presence. 🎁 Every small, intentional purchase supports a story. Whether it's a handcrafted gift from their shop or a locally owned business down the street, these choices make a difference. Let’s remember that beauty, sustainability, and connection matter—and that the most meaningful gifts are often the ones made with love, purpose, and a sense of home. Whether you're searching for your next home, reimagining your space, or looking for meaningful pieces to elevate your daily rituals, Whearley & Co. is here to help. ✨ 📍 925 Main St 🌐 www.whearleyandco.com 📱 @whearleyandco #SmallBusinessSaturday #ShopLocal #RWCMeansBusiness
