A reminder as we go into the holidays: don't comment on other people's bodies. While it may seem harmless, and even complimentary, to note the teenager that grew several inches, the relative that lost weight, or the friend who is now bald - we don't know how other's feel about their changing body nor the potential stress that may be behind the change. Thank you to theSkimm for chatting with me ahead of the holidays about this, and other advice, particularly if you are worried that a loved one may have an eating disorder.

Our team is still buzzing after an energizing week attending Behavioral Health Tech’s 2025 Conference in San Diego. We were thrilled to have both of our co-founders, Kristina Saffran and Erin Parks, Ph.D., as well as other leadership across Equip’s teams, attending the event. Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. Parks was featured on the panel, “Getting Youth the Specialized Care They Need,” alongside Joseph Perekupka and Sarah Fleury, and moderated by Dr. Jessica Jackson. Dr. Parks shared how Equip prioritizes evidence-based treatments that are developed and tested specifically for youth populations and how other programs can do the same. This conference brings together innovators and leaders who are working to increase the access and quality of necessary mental health care. We’re grateful to connect with other leaders who share our passion and dedication to pushing the field forward! #BHT2025

When it comes to conversations about mental health, especially eating disorders, many people don’t know where to start, or are worried about saying the wrong thing. Equip's Co-Founder and Chief Clinical Officer, Erin Parks, Ph.D. partnered with theSkimm as part of their “Ask An Expert” series to share advice for how to support a loved one who might be struggling with an eating disorder. Dr. Parks suggests approaching your loved one with compassion, “It’s the same as if you had concern about their bad relationship, a medical illness, depression: I’m worried about you. How can I support you?” Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/gqnYfGQy

Today, Equip was featured in an important Scientific American article discussing the rise of avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and highlighting the powerful recovery story of a past Equip patient. Our teams have seen a significant rise in ARFID admissions over the past few years, and we’re proud to offer comprehensive and effective treatment for those who have long been misunderstood or underdiagnosed. The article includes insights from one of the country’s leading ARFID experts and Equip’s VP of Clinical Programs, Jessie Menzel, PhD. We know that ARFID is more than “just picky eating” and we’re always excited to provide education and increase awareness about this lesser known eating disorder. Our very own Erin Parks, Ph.D. was featured as a guest on Aliza Pressman, Ph.D.'s Raising Good Humans Podcast! This episode serves as a comprehensive and compassionate guide to eating disorders and covers the full spectrum of diagnoses, including those commonly misunderstood, like ARFID. This is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to better understand eating disorders but especially for parents who want to be able to spot the early warning signs of an eating disorder in their child.
