  • Let’s talk about resumes — the universal love language of recruitment. After years of reviewing legal & compliance CVs in investment management, we’ve identified four distinct… species. 1️⃣ The Novel Page count: 7 (minimum) Features include: Every job they’ve ever held, including “Barista – 2012” High school awards… irrelevant but written with passion Paragraphs so long they qualify as SEC disclosures A “Skills” section that starts in optimism and ends in chaos Reading this one requires hydration, patience, and sometimes emotional support. 2️⃣ The Mystery Ah yes — the Puzzle Resume. No dates No context No job titles No idea what actually happened between 2017–2021 It’s giving: “I did things, somewhere, for someone.” We become detectives: 🕵️♀️ piecing together clues, 🧩 connecting bullet points, 🔍 praying the candidate picks up the phone. 3️⃣ The Bare Minimum This one keeps it… simple. Too simple. “Worked at a fund.” Which fund?? Hedge? Private equity? Real estate? Vitamin supplements?? “Handled compliance.” Which part?? Marketing review? Filings? Exams? The vibes??? This resume is basically a whisper. We call. We dig. We interpret. It’s an art form. 4️⃣ The Unicorn When this resume appears… angels sing. Clean formatting Clear chronology Actual descriptions of responsibilities (!!) Spelling that doesn’t trigger our fight-or-flight response It’s beautiful. It’s rare. We protect it at all costs.
