Many Americans including families, veterans and domestic violence survivors are struggling more than ever before this winter. Those experiencing homelessness with pets are often forced to brave the elements since few shelters allow animals. No one should be forced to choose between safety and the bond with their only companion. Six out of seven sea turtle species are threatened or endangered—this GivingTuesday, they need our help to survive. As winter approaches and ocean temperatures drop, sea turtles can experience fatal hypothermia. This “cold-stunning” shuts down their organs, paralyzing them in the water. When this happens, they need urgent medical care to recover. Greater Good Charities has already flown over 120 sea turtles from New England to safety in North Carolina this winter. Today's flight of 35 sea turtles has landed safely in North Carolina! These turtles suffered from "cold-stunning." When air and water temperatures plummet, sea turtles become incapacitated by potentially fatal hypothermia, rendering them unable to eat or even swim. They need urgent medical care to survive. The sea turtles on today's flight were stabilized by our partners at the New England Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Hospital before take off. They'll now be transferred to other facilities to continue rehabilitation and be released into the ocean once back to full health. This and future flights are crucial to assist in the effort to save as many endangered and threatened sea turtles as possible, and we couldn't do it without your support.
