💡 The latest Innovation Shop Talk dug into one big question: How can spaces strengthen human connection? Our panel explored how intentional design, flexible workplaces and a hospitality mindset can spark belonging and create environments where people want to show up. The takeaway: It’s not about capacity, it’s about connection. When we design for people, we build spaces to keep talent rooted in KC. 🎤 A huge thank you to our host and KCGD advisory board member, Chris Migneron with JE Dunn, and to our speakers, Sarah Brengarth, AIA, NCIDQ, LEED AP, Sara Greenwood, Tom Herzog, Chris Harren and Jessica Schuepbach, NCIDQ for their insight.

Excited to share insights from San Diego Climate Week 🌊🌱 We had a great time presenting alongside our partners Agendi at the inaugural San Diego Climate Week! Our team had the opportunity to discuss business resilience strategies specifically tailored for small and medium enterprises. Simone Fraid and Colleen Cochran led an engaging session on waste management, sharing practical approaches that businesses can implement today to reduce waste and increase diversion rates. The bottom line? Zero waste isn't just good for the planet—it's smart business. Companies that prioritize waste reduction often see tangible cost savings while strengthening their community impact and brand reputation. The graphic below highlights some of the key strategies we covered—practical steps that work across industries and scale with businesses of any size. We're passionate about helping businesses keep valuable resources out of landfills while building more resilient operations. Whether you're just beginning your sustainability journey or looking to optimize existing programs, we would love to connect. Questions about waste reduction strategies for your business? We loved being a part of the first-ever San Diego Climate Week, and knowledge sharing with local businesses and industry professionals. Thanks to our parters at Agendi for co-hosting and making this event possible! Simone Fraid, Colleen Cochran #SanDiegoClimateWeek
Last week, Agendi joined the first-ever San Diego Climate Week, which brought together over 5,000 participants across 100+ events focused on one theme: resilience. In partnership with Greenwood Consulting Group LLC, we hosted an interactive session: “Building Better Business Resilience: Sustainability Priorities for SMEs.” During the workshop, Colleen Cochran and Simone Fraid unpacked how small and mid-sized businesses can take practical steps on sustainability priorities like GHG accounting, climate risk, and waste management. Some take-aways here: 🏢 Many small businesses may not meet compliance thresholds, but their clients and suppliers often do, making data requests more common. ⚖️ Voluntary frameworks underpin emerging climate disclosure laws and can help SMEs take early, informed action. 🌱 Organizations like SBTi and CDP have streamlined pathways for SMEs, and free tools like the SME Climate Hub make climate action more accessible. 🚮 The TRUE Zero Waste framework offers practical guidance for reducing waste and aligning with California’s evolving regulations. The conversation highlighted a shared reality - progress is rarely linear, but every step toward better data and clearer strategy strengthens resilience. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Sustainability Education in Sports Venues: The Sonnentag Event Center Permanently installed in the lobby, the Sonnentag Sustainability Display at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire transforms complex building performance data into an interactive educational experience that engages athletes, students, spectators, and visitors alike. Athletic facilities are uniquely positioned to lead in sustainability education, and this project demonstrates just that. Sports and Event Venues yield high foot traffic, diverse audiences, and community visibility making them ideal settings for this kind of creative, integrative approach— ✅ Meeting people where they are ✅ Using innovative technology to spark curiosity ✅ Embedding learning into the built environment itself Our team at GCG developed the educational content strategy alongside Seven Mile Media, Backpack, IMEG, Ayres Associates, Inc., and Stok to make building systems understandable, support academic curriculum, highlight the project's Net Zero Goals and contribute to LEED Gold certification. High-performance athletic facilities, aren't just about efficiency—they're about inspiring action, demonstrating benefits and showcasing how sport, people, venue and sustainability intersect. Thrilled to see this installation come to life! 🌱 Our team at GCG was proud to develop the educational content strategy for the Sonnentag Sustainability Display at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire — and this project perfectly exemplifies why green building education matters. Working alongside the talented teams at Seven Mile Media, Backpack, Ayres Associates, Inc., and Stok, we crafted educational content that: ✅ Makes geothermal, solar, and building automation systems understandable for diverse audiences ✅ Supports UWEC's academic curriculum across multiple disciplines ✅ Tells the building's sustainability story in real-time ✅ Contributed to the project's LEED Gold certification This is the kind of creative, integrative approach that makes green building education impactful— meeting people where they are, using innovative technology to spark curiosity, and embedding learning into the built environment itself. When we design buildings to teach, we create ripple effects far beyond energy savings.⚡ Congrats to everyone involved in bringing this vision to reality! 🚀 Super excited to finally share the promo video for the Sonnentag Sustainability Display — an interactive touchscreen installation I completed for the new Sonnentag Event Center at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. This permanent lobby installation turns complex building performance data into an engaging, educational experience. Visitors can explore a 3D model of the building, dive into real-time data from its submetering system, and learn how geothermal heating, solar energy, and advanced automation make the Sonnentag Complex one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the region. In just 12 weeks, our team delivered the project end-to-end: - Built an interactive 3D experience with Three.js and react-three-fiber - Designed real-time energy and water usage dashboards with D3.js - Optimized architectural models in Blender for smooth, browser-based performance - Integrated the system on-site with UW’s IT team for a dedicated hardware installation 💡 The result: a future-proofed educational tool that supports UWEC’s curriculum, strengthens their sustainability story, and served as the linchpin in achieving LEED Gold certification. Huge thanks to our incredible collaborators who made this possible: - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire - Ayres Associates - Backpack - Greenwood Consulting Group LLC - Stok
