A new study found that 1 in 4 enrollees in ACA marketplace plans would “very likely” go without health insurance if premiums double due to enhanced premium tax credits expiring. This doesn't just affect health care coverage for enrollees; it destabilizes the health care system entire communities depend on. More uninsured Pennsylvanians means: ❌ Sicker communities ❌ Fewer hospitals, services, and care options ❌ Fewer jobs and weakened local economies HAP is advocating for Congress to extend vital premium assistance that protects access to care for thousands of Pennsylvanians. This week, the U.S. House passed a bill that would extend the Acute Hospital Care at Home program for five years. Without action, the program would expire at the end of January 2026 along with other short-term funding bills. In a letter to lawmakers ahead of the vote, Nicole Stallings highlighted that hospital at home programs "have resulted in improved patient outcomes, including lower rates of infections and complications and improved patient satisfaction. Further, these programs significantly reduce the cost of care and allow hospitals to free up resources and beds for patients waiting to be admitted." Read HAP's full letter: https://lnkd.in/eV73aCug.

HAP and PONL - Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders are raising concern that a federal policy limiting student loans for graduate degrees and not including in-demand health care professionals among those eligible for higher borrowing caps will make it more challenging to develop providers that our communities need. With the 2025-2026 state budget adopted, today's story in Spotlight PA looks at next steps to protect hospital care in Pennsylvania's rural communities. While the budget maintains important state funding for rural and critical access hospitals, to be sustainable long-term, rural hospitals need payments that reflect the real cost of providing care.
