All of us at Homeless Children's Network are incredibly grateful to Pattern Energy for their generous donation of over 100 beautiful diaper bags for families with very young children. 💜 Each thoughtfully crafted bag was put together by Pattern Energy employees and includes baby essentials like a changing pad and creams, along with special goodies for mothers and birthing persons and their families. These diaper bags were a hit for the pregnant and new parents our our Black Birthing Health Initiative's Healing Harvest on October 25! ✨ Thank you, Pattern Energy, for your kindness and generous support in making a difference for our families with infants and very young children! Support like this from our community makes it possible for us to keep serving children, youth, and families experiencing or at risk for homelessness. 💜

Homeless Children’s Network is honored to be selected as a grantee of the Decolonizing Wealth Project’s Youth Mental Health Fund. 💜 This support strengthens our work to expand culturally grounded, identity-affirming mental and behavioral health services for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ youth in San Francisco. With this investment, we will deepen our impact and allows us to expand access to our services, uplifting our youth and strengthening community-rooted healing. We are proud to stand alongside partners committed to transforming youth mental health through culture, community, and collective care. Together, we’re creating pathways to healing and empowerment for our city’s young people. 💜

On Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, we join a global movement that mobilizes generosity and collective action in support of meaningful social change. Giving Tuesday has become a significant moment in the philanthropic landscape, encouraging individuals, institutions, and communities to engage intentionally with the causes that shape a more equitable and compassionate society. Its power lies not only in individual donations, but in the shared belief that coordinated generosity can produce measurable, long-term impact. At Homeless Children’s Network (HCN), we remain committed to ensuring that every child has access to safety, stability, and the emotional support needed to envision a brighter future. This year, our Giving Tuesday goals focus on deepening our capacity to serve families experiencing homelessness: $10,000 to expand our programs and enhance the continuum of care we provide 5 new recurring donors to help build sustainable, long-term support for our community Philanthropic contributions do more than sustain our operations—they directly shape the developmental, emotional, and educational outcomes of the children we serve. Whether through a one-time gift or an ongoing monthly commitment, your support strengthens the foundation from which children can heal, grow, and thrive. To contribute, please visit our website at www.hcnkids.org We also encourage you to help broaden our reach: 📣 Share this message, engage your networks, and amplify our mission. Collective awareness is a critical part of driving community-level change. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to stand with us as we work toward a future in which every child has the opportunity to realize their full potential. #GivingTuesday2025 #HomelessChildrensNetwork #CommunityImpact #Philanthropy #NonprofitLeadership #ChildWellbeing #SocialImpact #Equity #SupportChildren #CollectiveAction #HumanServices #GivingSeason

Our Brighter Futures Program evaluation results are here, and the impact speaks for itself. 💜 From July to December 2024, we served 9 Black fathers and their families through culturally responsive therapy, healing circles, and case management. The results? ✔ Powerful intergenerational healing, ✔strengthened family bonds ✔enhanced parenting skills ✔fathers breaking cycles to become the role models their children deserve. 💬 "This program helped me to become the father I'm supposed to be." 💬 "I'm more patient and understanding towards my kids." 💬 "I learned how to talk and express myself. So I had to teach my daughter to express herself." Our Afri-centric, trauma-informed approach created safe spaces where Black fathers felt seen, supported, and empowered—many for the first time. They didn't just heal themselves; they're healing their children, rebuilding bonds with their own parents, and uplifting their communities. This work matters. Black fathers deserve accessible, culturally relevant mental health support. While funding for Brighter Futures has ended, the need has not. Earlier this month, our CEO Dr. April Y. Silas presented at the Initiative on Health and Homelessness at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, opening their webinar series with what they described as a "radical" presentation—and we couldn't be more proud. 💜 Dr. Silas traced an unbroken line from the 1500s transatlantic slave trade through redlining, mass incarceration, and today's gentrification—showing that today's homelessness crisis demands our deepest reflection, boldest resistance, and most committed repair. Dr. Silas challenged leaders across nonprofit, public health, academic, and private sectors to see what many overlook: homelessness is not a modern crisis, but the latest chapter in 500 years of systematic displacement. She traced the unbroken line from the transatlantic slave trade through redlining and mass incarceration to today's gentrification—showing that without confronting these roots, our solutions will only deepen the harm. Last year, we at HCN embarked on a mission to transform Black Maternal Health in San Francisco, and the results speak for themselves. In this video, Iesha Brooks, Program Manager of our Black Birthing Health Initiative (BBHI), shares the powerful impact of our work. Our independent evaluation conducted by Indigo Cultural Center showcases the incredible progress achieved by our BBHI program and staff, the results prove what's possible when we center Black voices, Black leadership, and Black wellness. The need is urgent: research indicates that 21% of Black/African American new mothers experience prenatal depression, with Medi-Cal recipients experiencing 2.5 times higher rates than those with private insurance. BBHI addresses these stark disparities through comprehensive, community-centered intervention led by those who understand the community best—because they are the community.
