I couldn’t pass up the chance to share Mill’s Black Friday Sale. I’m obsessed with my food recycler, Mill. It dries and grinds our scraps automatically overnight and turns them into a resource for the Earth - no mess, no smells. It has completely transformed our family’s mindset around food scraps, grocery shopping, and how we handle uneaten leftovers - especially this time of year.
Sharing a short clip from my conversation with Mill co-founder and President, Harry Tannenbaum . If you caught our episode with Chef Gavin Kaysen, you may have heard my full discussion with Harry… if not, consider this your teaser. (And yes, more fun conversations to come.)
So… you can literally save up to $200 right now - Mill’s biggest sale of the year, running through Monday, 12/1. ALL colors are on sale (including their two new premium finishes).
If you’ve ever thought, “Should I actually get one of these?” - welp, you know where I stand.

Thank you to the editors at Bon Appetit for including Mill as a gear-of-the-year awardee in the holiday gift guide!
“City-dwelling composters at the BA office who are sick of keeping smelly, messy compost bins on their counters are coveting this magical-seeming machine…One editor has been using hers for seven weeks and hasn't had to empty it yet.”
— Bon Appetit, Gear of the Year
Mill was designed to make preventing wasted food feel less like a chore and more like magic. It works while you sleep. It never smells. And yes, you really can keep filling it for weeks.

Thank you to Carina Finn at Bon Appetit for the thoughtful review of Mill:
“The one solution that’s stuck with me is the Mill. It can handle meat, dairy, and even bones in addition to produce scraps, which means I have to do approximately zero thinking or sorting before I dump the remnants of my cutting board in there. I can go about a month without having to empty it, which is the reason I’ve been able to use it consistently for so long.”
Making the right thing the easy thing is how we design our products to influence behavior change. Because the Mill food recycler is so easy and delightful to use, we’ve been able to keep 14M lbs (and counting) of food out of the landfill.
This week, we launched our Black Friday Cyber Monday sale, and it’s the best time all year to get (or give!) our “cult fave” food recycler.
Check it out at mill.com.

“At home, I’ve been using a Mill, which doesn’t quite compost but—as the name suggests—mills both kitchen waste and table scraps into a coffee ground-looking powder with a sweet and not unappealing smell…my weekly home trash bin is now much lighter.”
Thank you, Jonathan Deutsch, Ph.D., CHE, CRC for including your experience with Mill in FoodService Director Online’s recent piece on the complexities of composting today.

Planning for Scale
At Mill, our mission has always been to make it easy to keep food out of landfills. To do so with lasting impact requires scale, which means Mill needs to be intuitive, sticky, and readily adaptable to a range of environments.
As we begin to build relationships with municipalities and service providers across the US, Mill will be integrated into spaces where people haven’t actually paid for the service. Many people are not aware of available food scrap recycling programs let alone been in search of a solution. We need to know how Mill will perform in these different environments.
So, we put Mill to the test in what is traditionally considered the hardest environment to deploy a recycling system: a multifamily dwelling (MFD).
And it worked.
