Emergency situations can be frightening, especially for children. Placer County’s first responders have a way to help ease those moments and provide comfort - stuffed animals! The Older Adults Advisory Commission recently conducted a stuffed animal drive to collect and equip the first responders with these comfort stuffies to have on hand in times of need. The drive collected more than 2,600 stuffed animals for firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency personnel — more than doubling the original goal. OAAC commissioners gathered with first responders to hand off the stuffed animals, which will be kept in patrol cars, fire engines and ambulances in order to distribute during calls when someone could use a bit of comfort or calm. A huge thank you is extended to the many volunteers that coordinated collection sites, sorted and helped prepare the stuffed animals for distribution to the first responders today.

In 2016, we realized one of the greatest barriers to regional transit ridership was the cost of rides. That set in motion a wave of moves to make the Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit system free to the rider. Placer County invests around $5 million annually for transit options in the Tahoe region and with approvals last week, our Board of Supervisors ensured free rides will continue for residents and visitors for the next two years. It was a morning filled with gratitude and best wishes for CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Chief Brian Estes, who is set to retire at the end of this year after 35 years of service. The Board of Supervisors presented the chief with a commendation to honor his years of service, steadfast dedication and commitment to fire prevention and suppression in Placer County.

The Placer County Planning Commission has approved a proposal to modernize and enhance the long-standing Cisco Grove Campground near Donner Summit into a year-round resort. What a day at Raccoon Creek Ranch! 🌿 Last week, the Placer County Conservation Program (PCCP) and partners celebrated the kickoff of a major conservation and restoration effort—protecting 4,245 acres of farmland, open space and stream habitat north of Lincoln. This project marks one of the largest conservation milestones in West Placer, preserving salmon and steelhead habitat, supporting active agriculture and creating one of the region’s biggest blocks of protected land.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) has named Jim Hudson as the new fire chief for the CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit and the chief of Placer County Fire.
