Prisma Health is excited to announce that we are the first in South Carolina to offer iotaSOFT, the first and only robotic-assisted insertion system in the United States for cochlear implantation. Brent Wilkerson, MD, double-board-certified neurotology and otolaryngology specialist, implanted the first cochlear implant with robotic-assisted technology at Prisma Health. This technology is designed to maximize surgical outcomes to preserve the delicate structures within the cochlea. We’re proud to partner with iotaMotion to offer this technology that adds peace of mind for our patients!

  • Beginning December 2, all inpatient areas at Greenville Memorial Hospital will use Fast Pass visitor badges to create a safer, more welcoming experience for patients and visitors. This process is already in place at other Prisma Health facilities and has helped make visits more seamless. Simply bring your valid ID to the main entrance to receive a photo badge with the patient’s room number. Your badge is valid until midnight for easy same-day re-entry. Thank you for helping us keep our hospital safe, caring, and connected!

  • Greenville's Steve Dowe was having dinner with friends when he felt a terrible tearing pain in his chest. An 11-hour emergency heart surgery at Prisma Health's Greenville Memorial Hospital helped save his life — but it took a three-week intensive therapy called ECMO to “rest” his heart and allow it to heal. Now, he and his family are helping Prisma Health significantly expand access to the life-saving ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) treatment even as his family prepares to celebrate their second Thanksgiving after his near-fatal ruptured aortic aneurysm. The ECMO program, based in Greenville Memorial Hospital’s Heart Institute, is one of only two in the Upstate. ECMO therapy can help support a patient’s heart and lungs when the weakened organs need time to heal – for example, after respiratory infection, heart attack or trauma. More than just a ventilator, ECMO adds oxygen to the blood while removing carbon dioxide. It can help critically ill patients when other treatments have failed. “I’ve got such gratitude for the people who saved my life,” said Dowe. “The doctors – the cardiothoracic surgeons, the critical care team and this huge cast of people propped me up...until I could stand up. I and my family are incredibly grateful and couldn’t think of a better time of year to show that gratitude and help others.” “The Dowe family gift honors both the care they received, and the people who provided it – and it ensures that future patients, families and physicians will have the same chance at hope and healing,” said Rion Smith, the board chair of the Prisma Health-Upstate Foundation. “What began with exceptional care — care that made all the difference for one family — has now inspired a remarkable act of giving that will touch countless others.” Click here to read more about how the Dowe family is helping to expand this life-saving therapy with their transformational gift: https://bit.ly/48HD0OT #PrismaHVI #PrismaHealthCardiology #PrismaHealthFoundation
