Making Communities Healthier

About us

Raleigh General Hospital. We are making communities healthier. Raleigh General Hospital has played an important role in the healthcare of residents of southern West Virginia for nearly a century. Our roots are deep, going all the way back to 1922, when the Kings Daughters, a women's charitable organization, built Kings Daughter's Hospital. In 1928, a group of physicians purchased the hospital and changed its name to Raleigh General Hospital. In 1969, Hospital Corporation of America took over the facility, and later built the structure that is now our home on Harper Road. A merger between HCA and Columbia led to new ownership until 2006 when LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. purchased Raleigh General. Raleigh General Hospital cares for nearly 13,000 patients each year and treats more 50,000 patients in its emergency room. We are accredited by the Joint Commission, the nationally recognized accrediting agency for healthcare facilities. Raleigh General Hospital also offers instructional programs for nursing students as well as numerous allied health student extern programs. We offer a wide range of surgical services including: Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Spine Orthopedic Vascular Thoracic Interventional Pain Management Interventional Cardiology Gynecological General Oral Urological Eye Trauma/Emergency Services Specialty clinical programs include: Cardiac CTA, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI); PET scan, Digital Mammography, Lithotripsy (kidney stone treatment) Hemodialysis; Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and Trauma Services. Every year Raleigh General Hospital provides millions of dollars in charity and uncompensated care. We also contribute millions of dollars in taxes. We are the second largest employer in Raleigh County with approximately one thousand employees and our staff is actively involved in the community through a variety of non-profit and civic organizations including: The United Way of Southern West Virginia, The March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society, The Alzheimer’s Association, The Women's Resource Center and many other worthwhile community and charity organizations.

  • Last week, Raleigh General Hospital proudly donated roughly 400 turkeys to the Beckley Dream Center and the Salvation Army to help support local families in need during the holiday season. This incredible act of giving was made possible because our employees once again rose to the occasion, showing compassion, generosity, and a true commitment to making our communities healthier. To every team member who contributed, shared, supported, or helped organize: thank you. Your kindness reaches far beyond our hospital walls, and together, we’re making a meaningful impact.

  • We are excited to share another HBO patient spotlight. When Robert first came to our Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center, he was struggling with painful soft tissue radionecrosis (STRN) of the jaw and neck. Referred by his oral surgeon, he arrived hopeful but unsure of what the path ahead would hold. He was approved for 40 Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) treatments, and from his very first visit, Robert showed up with unwavering kindness, determination, and a smile that lifted everyone’s spirits. By his final dive, he shared that his mouth “feels so much better” and that he can finally return to daily life with comfort and confidence. Throughout his visits, Terri and Jordan would joke each morning that he was “signing in for his brand-new red Mercedes.” So on his last day, the team kept the tradition alive—surprising him with his very own toy red Mercedes. His laughter made the perfect ending to his 40-treatment journey. Robert’s attitude, humor, and resilience left a mark on all of us. We’re honored to have been part of his healing process and wish him continued health and happiness. Thank you, Robert, for letting us be part of your story.

  • Our tiniest patriots are showing their red, white, and blue spirit in the Newborn Nursery at Raleigh General Hospital! Each of these sweet babies is wrapped in love and freedom, and a special shoutout to the little one in our first photo, whose proud mom is an Air Force Veteran. She even brought her dog tags for his photo, a beautiful tribute to her service and sacrifice. From all of us at RGH, we salute our veterans and the families who serve alongside them. Thank you for your courage, your strength, and your love of country. 💙

  • As we approach Veterans Day, it feels especially fitting to honor one of our nation’s heroes and celebrate his healing journey at Raleigh General Hospital’s Advanced Wound Care Center. Jack, a proud Vietnam Veteran, came to us back in December 2024 with painful venous ulcers. Determined to do whatever it took to heal, Jack followed every recommendation, including seeing a vascular surgeon for a procedure, attending his weekly appointments, and wearing his ACE wrap compression faithfully. With the loving support of his wife Brenda and the dedication of our incredible wound care team, Jack is now fully healed in less than a year! Jack told us he was going to miss “his girls” here and we’ll certainly miss him, too. We’re so proud to have played a part in his journey to recovery and so thankful for his service to our country. Happy Veterans Day to Jack and all who have served. Your courage and strength inspire us daily.
