Evercoast put a 36-camera RED KOMODO 6K array through its 4D Gaussian Splatting pipeline to see how far a lean rig can really go. See the results.
What happens when you build a 36-camera RED Digital Cinema KOMODO 6K array and run it through Evercoast’s volumetric, 4D Gaussian Splatting pipeline? We decided to find out. We did this to vet one of the leading cameras in cinema production and evaluate its viability for high-fidelity volumetric video inside Evercoast’s 4D Gaussian splatting workflow. We also wanted to see how far we could push performance with what is, by industry standards, a relatively sparse array. Yes, 36 cameras sounds like a lot, but many volumetric rigs use 75–200+ cameras. Evercoast’s software works with as few as three cameras, and our goal is always to maximize quality while minimizing hardware. This test helped benchmark how much quality could be extracted from a leaner array configuration. There are practical trade-offs around setup complexity, data volume, workflow efficiency, calibration, rendering performance, and budget. A controlled comparison clarifies not just that the RED performs better, but how and why, and when the gains justify the additional hardware.
