✅ Happy Hump Day: BTW Are you a workaholic ... I mean a success machine? When an economist becomes a happiness expert, it doesn't hurt to listen, right? Dr. Arthur Brooks teaches leadership and happiness at Harvard and writes a weekly column in the Atlantic about meaning and happiness. His latest article is called " If I Work Harder, Will You Love Me?" We suggest listening to his 6.5 minute video on Harvard Business Review called: You're More Than a Success Machine 👁️ 📺 https://lnkd.in/dS9Vz9HF Don't run away! Just be curious about what he says: "Typically, what I find in highly successful people is that an addiction to work is, in fact, based on an inchoate belief that love from others—including spouses, parents, and friends—can be earned only through constant toil and exceptional merit." 🧐 ➡️ ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g3Rk28UR He explores origins of compulsive overworking and recommends steps we can take towards healing by nurturing the relationships we have in our lives - outside of work. #Career #Happiness #FutureOfWork

💡 Practical Tip of the Week ✍ Write this on a sticky note and bring it to meetings: 📝 Talk less. LISTEN More! Nothing kills the energy behind a project more than being in a meeting that feels like a lecture. “If you're in a situation where you're walking away from every conversation with the same information or the same knowledge that you had before the conversation, you're not listening. If you're just waiting for your turn to talk, you're not listening … Start practicing being very present with the person so you're not distracted and you're giving them the gift of your full attention by paraphrasing back, admitting, validating, empathizing so that the person does truly feel seen, heard, and valued.” - Julian Treasure If you’re a TEDTalk junkie, you probably know Julian Treasure, sound and communication whisperer 😉 He says that most leaders speak 60% and listen 40% BUT truly successful leaders do the absolute opposite 🙃 "Listening is the doorway to understanding." 🎙️ The Forgotten Leadership Skill: Why Listening Changes Everything with Julian Treasure, Sep 8, 2025 https://lnkd.in/eW6wZ9JT 📚 Sound Affects https://amzn.to/4mCyAh8 🤔 When was the last time you felt heard in a meeting? #Career #Leadership #Listen

✨ Thinking about working with a career coach ... ... because we know an amazing one: Gina Riley. Her coaching specialty is helping professionals navigate through pivotal career moments. She shares this wisdom in her recently published book, Qualified Isn’t Enough 📖 We recently asked her a few questions to let you get to know her. What is the trait you most value in a client? Just one? Curiosity, initiative, and stamina. The leaders I see winning have intellectual curiosity, ask thoughtful questions, and strategically look around the corner. They take ownership of their future success, and they have the willpower to get through the challenges of navigating a career transition. What is the trait you most value in yourself as a coach? “Individualization,” a top talent from my StrengthsFinder assessment. This superpower gives me the innate ability to hone in on the unique differences and customize my approach with everyone. What is your greatest professional achievement? I only get one? I don’t like getting boxed in because I have a few pride points! My latest achievement is authoring my first book, Qualified Isn’t Enough. I am proud of earning my Master’s degree, which helps me lead with curiosity daily. I’m proud of my YouMap certification because it has helped me understand myself and others more deeply. What is your favorite quality in a friend? Loyalty and honesty. Without these, are they a real friend? What vice do you most dislike? I will never tell because you might start doing it around me! 👉 Check out Gina’s work and see how she can support your career journey. ➡️ ➡️ Get her book here: https://amzn.to/47wGCUR

✅ Monday Morning Reality Check: Are you AI-ready? Julie Zhuo (Facebook-VP, Sundial-CEO, The Making of a Manager-Author) is on Lenny's Newsletter Podcast talking about AI & Management: From managing people to managing AI: The leadership skills everyone needs now. We give it ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ It starts getting 🔥 around 8:41 - Why AI will make everyone a manager. ➡️ ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eR-X2ZNd “Management is still really critical. You have a North Star, you have a vision, and you're just trying to figure out how to use the resources that you have to get that thing done. It used to be people, but now it's basically models, and different models have different strengths. You have to assemble the Avengers so that you can use the right tools for the right purposes." What tools are you using now to manage people and AI? #AI #Management #FutureLeadership

I love Throwbacks! Here we are in 2018.
✨ Throwback to one of Talence Group’s earliest Board of Directors trainings on “The Art and Science of Talent Assessment & Selection” in 2018. Gina Riley and I had the privilege of guiding our first Board through the process of hiring both a CEO and CPO. It was a powerful moment in shaping how we support boards and executive teams in making the right leadership decisions. It’s inspiring to look back on where we began, and even more exciting to see how far the practice of thoughtful, rigorous talent assessment has come. #Leadership #ExecutiveSearch #BoardGovernance #TalentStrategy

⭐ Monday Morning Reality Check: Are you AI-ready? 🤔 Our opinion is that jobs that rely on repetition, not judgement will be the first area where we will see AI job displacement, and Goldman Sachs agrees with us: "Occupations with higher risk of being displaced by AI include computer programmers, accountants and auditors, legal and administrative assistants, and customer service representatives." Expanding your skills and responsibilities which rely on your professional judgement is a career advantage. Also, Leadership still matters! People who mentor, motivate and align teams will always be needed. ➡️ ➡️ Link: https://lnkd.in/ed8hjbkC What are you doing to adapt to this AI era in the workplace? #AI #DigitalTransformation #Careers

💡 Career Tip: Before making a career move, try an experiment 🔬 This is a fascinating article in Nature Magazine by Anne-Laure Le Cunff, PhD and Matthew Betts, Ph.D. about how career exploration can begin with a tiny experiment. "The goal of a career experiment isn’t to land your next job — it’s to learn. Experiments can lead you down curiosity-driven rabbit holes and open up unexpected paths. Just like in research, some will confirm your hypothesis, and others will disprove it. In fact, a ‘failed’ career experiment can be just as clarifying as a successful one by helping you to rule things out." ➡️ ➡️ Nature Article: https://lnkd.in/en2gbMVf ➡️ ➡️ LinkedIn Article with examples: https://lnkd.in/eVvaCKUu If you try an experiment, let us know how it worked out! #Careers #CareerTips #Growth
