This Lunar New Year, Michelle Tang, Global Chief Growth Officer for McCann, has some advice for brands: “Make a Lunar New Year’s resolution to connect with the Asian-American community.”   Asian-Americans, the fastest-growing US demographic with projected $1.9 trillion buying power by 2026, remain under-represented in advertising. A Gold House study found that one-third of the Asian-Pacific community see limited diversity in ads, highlighting a disconnect between their economic influence and visibility. With that in mind, celebrating Asian culture is more important than ever, but brands should make sure to be authentic while doing so and understand all the nuances of this vibrant and influential group.   The Lunar New Year, a grand tradition marked by symbolic actions of sweeping away the bad luck of the past and preparing for prosperity moving forward, is a great place (and time) for brands to start. Are you using AI to enhance your Cannes Lions prep work? We are. Margaret Burns, Associate Director of Global Creative Initiatives at TBWA\Worldwide, and Anthony Hamelle, Chief Innovation Officer at TBWA\Chiat\Day New York, recently spoke with Ad Age about it. TBWA\Chiat\Day NY’s innovation and data team built a Cannes Lions awards submission AI agent trained on more than 5,000 publicly available Cannes Lions submissions from recent years. The goal isn’t for the AI to write the entire submission but instead to assist people after they have written their submissions. While the tool has made it easier for employees, Margaret says we can’t judge the success of the Cannes coach agent based on how many awards are won. “There are just too many factors that change from year to year that don’t have anything to do with whether or not we used this agent,” she said. “The work could be better next year and we win more. “Anecdotally, we’re going to get a lot of feedback from [employees] about how helpful they felt it was.
