Careers in engineering often start with a spark, found through conversations and connections like the ones we had yesterday at the Penn State University Career Fair. Representing Allied Resources Group (ARG), our own recruiter, Steven Serrano, MSM (Allied Resources Technical Consultants), joined by engineers Tyler Clayton, E.I.T. (R.T. Patterson Company), Cody Degler (AED Energy Services), and Joseph Hole (AED Energy Services), connected with students to share how technical careers can open doors to problem-solving, innovation, and real-world impact. #PoweredByOurPeople

Last week, Davis-Besse and other local employers had the opportunity to meet the next generation of skilled professionals at the Ottawa County Career Showcase. Events like these are a great way for students to explore career paths, learn about local industries, and see firsthand how their classroom skills translate to real-world opportunities. Our Vistra–Davis-Besse team was proud to represent careers in energy and nuclear power while sharing our mission to create safe, reliable, and rewarding workplaces for future trades and technical talent. If you’re a student preparing to attend your next career fair, here are a few quick tips I always share: ✅ Bring your resume – even if you’re still in school, it shows initiative. ✅ Research the companies attending and have a few questions ready. ✅ Be prepared with your elevator pitch – introduce yourself confidently and share your interests. ✅ Follow up with new connections on LinkedIn after the event. Career fairs are more than just networking—they’re your chance to make an impression and start building your professional story early. #Vistra #CareerShowcase #WorkforceDevelopment #OttawaCounty #DavisBesse #EnergyCareers #CareerFairTips #STEMCareers #NuclearEnergy #CommunityEngagement

SBCC has been on a roll with career fairs lately! The DE&A team attended the Louisiana Tech Fall 2025 Career Fair to interact with Computer Science students. Many of them proved to be strong candidates to join our University Partnership Program. “I really enjoy the networking piece of the career fairs. I find value in being able to provide mentorship by telling my own career story. It helps the students to visualize an overall career journey, and encourages them to take a first step in what can be an overwhelming and unfamiliar environment." Alicea Snellgrove, MBA, UPP Program Manager Career fairs aren't just about handing out résumés — they’re about building genuine connections. When you take the time to listen, share your story, and learn about others, you’re laying the foundation for trust. Whether you're a recruiter or a job seeker, the goal is the same: real conversations that lead to real opportunities. William Francis, Joshua Francis, Grant Cooper, Russell Kelly

Excited to be on campus today at St. Norbert College! In honor of my first career fair of the season at my alma mater... Here's a throwback to my own career fair experience, plus some tips to make the most of your experience: ✅ Do your homework — Research the companies you plan to meet. You don’t need to be an expert, but knowing why you’re interested goes a long way. ✅ Stay open-minded — Talk to recruiters from companies you hadn’t considered. It just so happened that at a career fair, Schneider and the transportation industry found me – and the rest is history! ✅ Be curious and confident — Ask questions, share your story, and show enthusiasm. There's truly no need to be nervous (like Freshman me below clearly was) because recruiters truly want to talk to you! ✅ Prepare your profile — Get ready to showcase your skills in a LinkedIn or Handshake profile and updated resume that makes it easy for recruiters to have your information and stay connected after the event.

This week, Arizona State University’s Associated General Contractors of America Chapter got an inside look at Kiewit—from the types of projects we take on in transportation, water, power, and industrial markets, to what new engineers can expect when they join the team. Matthew Miller, Keaton Roberts, and I shared real-world experiences around onboarding, field work, mentorship, and career growth—helping students picture the jump from classroom to jobsite. We also offered actionable tips for career fairs and interviews, like how to build a strong resume, network with confidence, and talk about technical experience in a way that stands out. Language in Action - Program Update! On Monday September 29th, the Language in Action Program hosted a Job Fair Preparation Workshop facilitated by Mary Coulas and Golshan Mahjoub! Almost all participants had no previous experience with attending job fairs, so the session focused on practical tips to help them feel confident and prepared. They learned about job fair etiquette, how to prepare, how to get there, and other key tips for making a strong and impactful presence at the job fair. Participants also explored elevator pitches, wrote their own, practiced them, and received feedback to strengthen their delivery. This hands-on session has equipped them with the skills and confidence needed for the upcoming Ottawa Career Fair next week. 💡 If you’re attending the Ottawa Career Fair, on October 8th, make sure to stop by the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization - OCISO booth to learn more about the RAISE and LIA programs. Mary and Golshan, the program facilitators, will be there to answer your questions.
