When you acquire a new asset, looking under the hood at their data can be an interesting experience. Here’s some advice from Dirk Sahlmer, Head of Origination at saas.group, on where to focus when setting up metrics tracking post-acquisition. 1. Marketing data. Look at what they’ve done historically, how well it worked, and analytics across acquisition channels so you can understand CAC. Drop the channels that aren’t working and decide where to invest more moving forward to impact the bottom line. 2. Company KPIs. Make sure the team has a shared dashboard focused on metrics like pipeline generation, conversation rates, new MRR, and retention rates. 3. Financial data. Lots of SaaS businesses aren’t used to reporting to a board. Have them start reviewing revenue metrics quarterly so you can make smart budget adjustments and more accurate growth forecasts.
