Earlier this month, we hosted various visits to Imerys British Lithium Limited pilot plant, Gunheath Discovery Centre - which overlooks our lithium resource, and Imerys Littlejohns kaolin pit - which is very close by! A group from Falmouth Civic Society visited our lithium processing pilot plant, warmly welcomed by head of process Ben Cordier and helped by Gemma Pateman and Dan Cocker. The group had a presentation explaining how we will produce battery-grade #lithium carbonate from local, #Cornish #granite. After a hot drink and a biscuit, the Society enjoyed a tour around the pilot plant before ending with a very interesting and informative Q & A which, if not halted by their group leader, could have gone well into the night! We were also visited by a group of students from the Institute of Mineral Resources Engineering at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Five students, two research assistants and their professor firstly, visited Gunheath Discovery Centre to meet mine technical manager Glen Heather and GIS specialist Jack McKie, who explained the plans to mine lithium from this old kaolin pit. Peter gleeson, head of geology, also spent time with the group giving them an insight into his work. They then headed to Imerys to see Littlejohns - the largest kaolin pit in the world - and meet exploration and resource geologist Bill Cooper. Bill delivered a talk on the viewing platform about the geology of this area, specific to kaolin, and Imerys ongoing work across mid-Cornwall. Thanks to our visitors for their interest and thanks to everyone involved in the tours 👏
