💙 Care South Donates £900 to Purbeck Animal Assisted Learning Services (PAALS) 💙 We are delighted to share that Care South, a not-for-profit provider of residential and care at home services across the South of England, has donated £900 to Purbeck Animal Assisted Learning Services (PAALS) through our Community Fund. The Community Fund supports local organisations, groups and services that make a direct difference to the lives of our residents, clients and colleagues. Purbeck Animal Assisted Learning Services provides a nurturing and inclusive environment where people of all ages can benefit from the healing power of nature and animals. The farm offers hands-on experiences with a range of animals including horses, goats, sheep and pigs. Residents from Dorset House in Hamworthy and other Care South homes have already enjoyed visits to PAALS, where they were able to meet and care for the animals. These experiences have proved incredibly popular, helping residents connect with nature and enjoy meaningful moments of calm and joy. The donation was presented to Cheryl Dennett, who runs PAALS, by Simon Bird, CEO of Care South, and Charlotte Mitchell, Lifestyle and Activities Lead at Care South, alongside residents and team members from Dorset House. Cheryl said: “We are so grateful to Care South for this generous donation. Our work is all about improving wellbeing through meaningful connections with animals and nature. It is wonderful to see the way residents’ faces light up as soon as they see the animals and how relaxed they feel as they interact with them.” Simon Bird added: “We are delighted to support Cheryl and the team at Purbeck Animal Assisted Learning Services through our Community Fund. A joint operation led by the Healthy Seas Foundation and the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation removed an abandoned fish farm from the Saronic Gulf off Methana, recovering more than 40 tonnes of marine litter and demonstrating the power of collaboration in addressing complex environmental challenges, from marine pollution to coastal restoration.

In a new story from The Pew Charitable Trusts, U.S. Conservation Officer Kristiane Huber reviews the State Resilience Planning Group (SPRG) Meeting held in Athens back in August. Our partners at the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems were honored to help host this meeting, which gathered leaders from 20 states to discuss how to leverage nature and innovative infrastructure solutions for resilience. 🚨 Strengthening rural first responders 🚨 Compeer Giving, our corporate philanthropy program, awarded $605,998 in emergency response grants to 160 volunteer fire, rescue and ambulance departments across Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. These funds will help rural communities upgrade vital equipment and technology across six priority areas — from communication gear and protective equipment to rescue, medical, lighting, and training tools. Since its launch in 2018, our emergency grants have invested nearly $5 million to bolster volunteer first responders in our 144-county region.
