Last week, California-based employers and public purchasers gathered in Oakland (and via Zoom) for a PBGH Regional Roundtable. During the event, benefits leaders shared current organizational priorities and opportunities for achieving health care value in the local market. Building upon the advanced primary care (APC) common measure set and purchasing standards developed by PBGH members, the California Quality Collaborative discussed strategies for purchasers to drive primary care improvement for patients across the state. A case study presented by Joy Dionisio, MPH, Senior Equity and Quality Improvement Specialist, Covered California, described their experience contracting with health plans to strengthen primary care accountability and outcomes. The Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA) hosted its annual Emergency Preparedness event on Nov. 5, giving hospitals and healthcare organizations around the state the chance to train for and assess facility-wide responses to a plausible MCI scenario. IHA President and CEO A.J. Wilhelmi noted the importance of strong evaluation and collaboration. “This annual exercise is an example in how we prepare to succeed. Today is not about passing or failing, it’s about honest evaluation, collaboration, and strengthening our ability to respond under pressure.”

At AAP Global Health, all of our projects start with an evaluation plan and end when we've shared our findings with all our partners, including the community who participated. Every project is a learning journey that results in more knowledge about what works in global health. This week, Jess Littman, Manager of Measurement, Evaluation & Dissemination, is at the American Evaluation Association conference in Kansas City, learning new strategies in research and evaluation. From evidence-based practices in healthcare to co-creating evaluations with communities, the sessions this week will inspire our learning agenda. #Eval2025 #evaluation

Plenty to digest in NHS England’s Medium-Term Planning Framework, published today: https://lnkd.in/eXtVC6gk. Naturally I’ve gone straight to this section on page 21, highlighting the need to understand and improve people’s experiences. I’m particularly interested in the final paragraph, which commits to next year’s Quality Strategy including relevant cross-cutting improvement targets. Building in the kind of qualitative intelligence that comes from local Healthwatch and the wider voluntary sector ought to be central to that.

I was grateful for the opportunity to join Howard Chrisman, MD and Molly Gamble at Becker's Healthcare CEO + CFO Roundtable. Sharing BayCare Health System’s journey from a community health system to the region’s largest academic health system in partnership with Northwestern Medicine is truly inspiring – and unique! This collaboration is about more than strategy—it’s about ensuring no patient in West Central Florida ever needs to leave home for world-class care. Together, we’re expanding access to groundbreaking research, innovative education and compassionate care. The future of health care depends on partnerships that prioritize patient-centered care, workforce engagement and continuous evolution. We are proud to be part of this transformative moment. #BayCareProud #BeBold

Across the country, statewide strategies to support Accreditation are providing health departments with the tools and resources they need to pursue PHAB Accreditation, strengthen continuous quality improvement, and deliver both Foundational Capabilities and the Essential Public Health Services to their communities. At #APHA2025, our director of Accreditation & Recognition, Brittan Williams, MPH, CHES presented on how states are supporting Accreditation readiness, through statewide learning communities, incentives such as reduced reporting requirements, statewide documentation reviews, and other coordinated tools and supports. PHAB continues to actively engage with statewide systems and cohorts to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and Foundational Capability building through these strategies. PHAB also offers services to support state systems and health departments, including strategy facilitation, technical assistance, training, and peer learning opportunities through the 21C Learning Community. We’re proud to share the first edition of the Delaware Practice & Community-Based Research Network (PCBRN) Exchange, where practice and research intersect to improve care, outcomes, and clinician well-being across our state. This inaugural newsletter highlights the momentum generated since the June Delaware PCBRN annual meeting, which brought together clinicians, researchers, and network staff to initiate collaborative working groups focused on real-world clinical priorities. The Delaware PCBRN now includes practices from all three counties, serving diverse populations in rural, suburban, and urban settings. We’re especially grateful to our partners who make this work possible: Bayhealth, Beebe Healthcare, ChristianaCare, La Red Health Center, Inc., Nemours, TidalHealth, Westside Family Health Center, Wilmington VA Medical Center, and the Delaware Health Equity Coalition.
