Every November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month reminds us of a truth that’s both uncomfortable and urgent: stigma kills. Lung cancer causes more deaths than breast, prostate, and colon cancer combined, yet still is often perceived as a ‘smoker’s disease.’ Language matters. The words we choose influence empathy, policy, and research priorities. As MedComms professionals, we have a duty to lead with clarity and compassion. We translate science into stories that inform without judgement, empower without shame, and give hope where stigma once stood.
