We almost never become unrecognizable all at once. It happens slowly, one small compromise at a time. That’s the biggest threat of AI right now. I’m not concerned we’re suddenly going to wake up and discover it has turned on us. I’m concerned because we keep drifting. Each week, I observe small, “reasonable” exceptions that quietly shift things as the lines between right and wrong, safe and reckless, human and machine-driven, become blurred beyond recognition. If we don’t take the time to define clear red lines, we will eventually lose control of the technology. And, we’ll lose sight of ourselves in the process.

We don’t need to govern a hypothetical superintelligence. We need to govern real systems, right now. Lowkey giggling at people comparing AI bubble to dotcom bubble while using all the afterglow of that latter’s bursting — super-fast Internet, dynamic web pages, social media, etc. etc. The dotcom bubble didn’t kill the Internet — it incinerated the nonsense and left infrastructure, protocols, and habits that still power every “real” thing people do online. When the AI bubble pops, odds are we’ll end up with the same: fewer hype decks, more quietly omnipresent intelligence in everything. The funniest bit? Half the critics are writing those hot takes with AI — just, y’know, “ethically.”

These days the big question that's all over the news “Are we in an AI bubble?” Most people I talk to seem to be either convinced we are in one or convinced that this time is different. The reality is probably somewhere in the middle. I am sure you will agree that yes, there are a lot of AI products that look the same. And yes there is more noise than signal. A lot of what is being built feels impressive but does not solve a real + repeated workflow yet. No doubt the tech behind it is strong. However, it seems that the use case is fuzzy/still forming. It is important to remind ourselves that AI is not a product but rather it is a capability layer that will show up inside tools (software or devices) all of us are already using. Most standalone AI apps won’t last not because the tech is weak but because distribution > features (my Product folks will agree to this). The advantage will go to whoever meets the user where they already are. Which means the companies that survive will be the ones that solve a real + repeated workflow, integrate directly where work already happens & deliver measurable outcomes. So is there an AI bubble? Possibly. But the question that actually matters is who/which company is building something that still makes sense when the hype is gone? That is where the real value will be.

We moment we stop talking about AI and switch to virtual agents, the moment tech and non-tech can begin to converse. It is always the application, not the engine that bridges understanding.

Customers do not buy intelligence. They buy the end of stupidity. I have watched brilliant AI teams fail because they sold "advanced algorithms" instead of "no more 6-hour manual tasks." People do not want smarter tools they want their current pain to disappear. Sell relief, not brilliance.

One of the things we discussed in class last week was that even though AI can produce quality creative outputs, the feeling and experience that comes from the *act* of creating something unassisted by tech is simply not replicable. Major, major agree.

“Behind the Code” Most people still think AI learns from data. It doesn’t. It learns from patterns of behaviour encoded inside that data. And if those patterns carry fear, control, or bias — that’s what it learns to amplify. So we stopped feeding it more data. We started feeding it resonance.
