Tariffs aren't just a cost issue for medtech. They're forcing a conversation we *should* have had decades ago. That was my main take in a recent MD+DI roundtable. I was in good company — the discussion included Omar Al-Midani (PureWay), April Chan-Tsui (Clarivate), Christine Kachinsky-Bye (KPMG), John Danes (Kent Elastomer Products), and Lynlee Brown (EY). 🙌 The rollout of tariffs is causing us to think more strategically about supplier relationships, especially in light of the new geopolitical order. At FastWave Medical, we’ve seen firsthand how geopolitical complexities can affect partnerships. And that experience has reinforced the importance of strategic alignment — in supply chain decisions and beyond. Accelerating our industry's focus on building more resilient, domestically centered supply chains aligned with U.S. allies is a welcome and ultimately helpful move. What we're seeing is a shift from "lowest unit cost" to "total value" — where geopolitical alignment, technical collaboration, and speed to market matter more than the price on a purchase order. I think the medtech ecosystem is well-positioned to pioneer a smarter approach to partnerships — whether that’s manufacturing, supply chain, or capital relationships. Strategic alignment with American interests doesn’t have to be a constraint — it can be a competitive advantage. 🎯 📌 Be sure to check out the full article (link in the comments). And last, big thanks to Joe Darrah for putting this roundtable together!

AI implementation is the most disruptive force in medtech for 2026. Our CEO, Adam Hesse, discussed this and the need for maintaining human oversight in his new interview with Omar Ford, Editor-in-Chief of MD+DI, on the trends shaping the future of medtech. "At a Glance: - AI in FDA submissions could revolutionize approval processes, with smaller companies driving the trend for faster reviews. - Consumer-driven healthcare empowers patients but raises challenges in education, risk, and regulatory compliance. - AI implementation poses the most disruptive force in 2026." The next few years in medtech will be transformative. Read the full article below for a deep dive into these disruptive forces, the need for human oversight, and what this all means for innovation. #medtech #digitalgealth #aiinhealthcare #fda #healthcareinnovation https://lnkd.in/eyZ74bW7

Before 2025, supply chain transformation was already underway. Tariffs just accelerated the process. Propel's medtech expert Chuck Serrin points out: "The real impact isn't just geographic — it's operational. Companies that built their strategies around lowest-cost sourcing are discovering that ‘cheapest’ becomes irrelevant when your entire supply chain can be disrupted overnight. Smart manufacturers are now optimizing for resilience and flexibility over pure cost efficiency.” Serrin shared his insights among other experts in MD+DI's recent roundup, explaining how companies are adapting through diversification, regionalization, and disruption at the end of a major year for supply chain disruption. MD+DI recently featured an insightful interview with Adam Hesse, CEO of Full Spectrum, where he shared his perspective on the transformative trends shaping the medtech industry. From the growing role of AI in FDA submissions to the rise of consumer-driven healthcare products and the challenges of marketing advanced remote patient monitoring tools directly to consumers, Adam provides a comprehensive look at the forces driving change in healthcare. One key takeaway? The disruptive potential of AI implementation. Hesse emphasizes how AI is poised to impact every aspect of healthcare innovation and delivery, but he also underscores the critical need for human oversight to ensure its effective and ethical use. As we look ahead to 2026, these trends will continue to redefine the medtech landscape, challenging organizations to adapt and innovate. 📖 Read the full article on MD+DI to dive deeper into Adam’s insights: https://lnkd.in/eyZ74bW7 #Medtech #AI #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth

As the calendar year draws to a close, MD+DI recently convened a roundtable of subject matter experts (SMEs) to explore how global tariffs continue to shape medtech production and delivery. This two-part series, authored by Joe Darrah, delves into the challenges and strategies medtech companies are employing to adapt to these economic pressures. In Part One, we hear from a diverse group of industry leaders who share their perspectives on the impact of tariffs on design, production costs, and supply chain resilience: Omar Al-Midani, Co-founder and CEO at PureWay, highlights how tariffs have driven up costs for everyday medical items like gloves and masks, leading companies to shift sourcing to lower-tariff regions in Asia. Scott Nelson, Co-founder and CEO at FastWave Medical, emphasizes how tariffs have accelerated the push for resilient, domestically centered supply chains, positioning medtech as a model for American reindustrialization. April Chan-Tsui, Director of Product Operations and Medtech Insights at Clarivate, discusses how increased costs for critical inputs have led to reassessments of R&D budgets and extended innovation timelines. Christine Kachinsky-Bye, National Tax Sectors Leader and Life Sciences Tax Industry Leader at KPMG US, explains how escalating tariffs have disrupted cost structures, forcing companies to rethink supply chain strategies and materials used in device design. Lynlee Brown, Global Trade Partner at EY, sheds light on how companies are leveraging trade agreements like the US-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement to mitigate costs and adapt their design and R&D activities. @John Danes, President at Kent Elastomer Products, Inc. Products, shares how his company has managed to avoid significant tariff impacts by sourcing domestically or using tariff-exempt materials, though some price increases have been unavoidable. This insightful discussion underscores the resilience and adaptability of the medtech industry in the face of global economic challenges. 📖 Read the full article here to learn more about how these leaders are navigating the complexities of tariffs: https://lnkd.in/gQJMQ_yu Stay tuned for Part Two, where we’ll dive deeper into the strategies and solutions shaping the future of medtech amidst ongoing tariff challenges. #Medtech #Tariffs #SupplyChain #Innovation
