I see a lot of these posts with this claim 👆 , so here's my take 👇 OpenAI recently introduced a new image generation model as a part of GPT-4o, combining remarkable capabilities in text and image generation. We have all tried Studio Ghibli styles at this point for our personal images (Huge fan!) Truth: It will disrupt careers and transform the creative landscape! However, claiming this advancement "kills" careers misses a crucial point: tools enhance creativity; they rarely replace it outright. This new model can create stunning visuals in seconds. It can mimic styles, generate ideas, and produce high-quality work. The speed and efficiency are unmatched. This shift has left many designers feeling threatened. Job security is at risk. Many wonder if their skills will still be valued. I call it the "Creative Disruption Effect". This powerful change impacts the art world in five critical ways: → Accessibility: Everyone can create art now. → Quality: AI produces high-quality images fast. → Variety: Countless styles and options are available. → Cost: Cheaper alternatives to hiring artists. → Competition: More creators in the market. 3 AM Burps & AI Surprises: My New Creative Process? It's 3 am. The rhythmic patting on the back, the softest of burps, and finally, that moment of stillness before gently placing our little one back in the crib. In the quiet darkness, a thought sparked: let's see what AI can do. So, fueled by lukewarm tea and sleep deprivation, I asked Gemini to create some campaign visuals for a luxury hand cream brand I just conjured up - "divyam" (clearly, 3 am isn't my creative peak!). Honestly? What came back blew my mind. (See the images below!) The sheer speed and visual quality are astonishing. Implications for the Ad Industry: Rapid Prototyping & Concept Exploration: Imagine the possibilities for brainstorming and quickly visualizing campaign ideas. Forget lengthy photoshoots for initial concepts – AI can generate a multitude of options in minutes, allowing for faster iteration and client feedback. Democratization of Visual Content: While the human creative eye and strategic thinking remain crucial, AI tools can empower smaller businesses and individuals to create compelling visuals without the immediate need for extensive resources. Designers are going to be replaced, but not by AI. They're being replaced by the designers using AI. Here's what I'm seeing: → Half the design community is panicking about AI taking their jobs. → The other half is trying to use it for everything and getting frustrated with mediocre results. Both groups are missing the point. I spent the last couple of years finding new ways to leverage AI in my design workflow—from research and rapid concepting to iteration and copy refinement. Some attempts were game-changing. Others were complete disasters. The breakthrough was when I stopped asking "Can AI do this?" and started asking "Should AI do this?" AI can either amplify your creativity or replace it—the key is distinguishing what needs to stay human from what can be enhanced by AI. I've created 4 brands using AI and shared them on LinkedIn. Here's why I did it, and what it taught me: Since childhood, my imagination has been my playground, my workshop, my world. That instinct to build, invent, and explore has remained integral to my creative growth to this day. Today, my work with AI represents the next step in my journey—but with new tools and bigger canvases. This exploration isn’t about technology for its own sake, but about expanding the reach of human potential. Over the past six weeks, I’ve developed four speculative brand experiments, all using AI—(森)MORI™, Artificial Material™, AR4™ and Yikoshi™. These projects aren’t endpoints—they’re each living experiments in the creative partnership between human imagination and machine intelligence. They exist not to be perfect, but to move the conversation—and the craft—forward. I’ve learned valuable lessons I could not have learned without creating and sharing these experiments on LinkedIn—openly, freely and in their raw form. That is the guiding question explored in a new article by Christian Pescher and Gerard Tellis, recently published in the Journal of Product Innovation Management (JPIM). Their paper, titled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Ideation Process,” offers a comprehensive review of how AI reshapes the front end of innovation – from identifying opportunities to generating and evaluating ideas. 🔍 Key takeaways: 1. Firm culture will become an even more critical driver of radical (vs. incremental) innovation in the age of AI. As AI increasingly mediates this relationship, managers should actively foster a culture that supports innovation. 2. AI enhances the speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of ideation. Managers should leverage AI tools to accelerate and scale the ideation process – and stay adaptive as the technology evolves rapidly. 3. AI improves the average creativity of generated ideas, but research is conflicting on whether it enhances the creativity of top ideas. As a CMO, one of my top priorities right now is working out what role AI will play in our marketing work at Google. In my experience, Creatives are always the first to play with new tools, and AI is the most exciting sandbox yet. I believe this moment could be a fundamental shift in how we create, allowing us to have impossible ideas and to do things we never could before. While it is still early days, we are already seeing AI revolutionise our workflows, whether it's saving us countless hours storyboarding with ImageFX, or generating 300 variations in one day of our Best Phones Forever spots, using AI to generate copy and visuals. AI can help us do creative testing way faster, or respond to a brief with lots of ideas (or help us organise all the ideas we had but never shipped). Building a culture of experimentation on my team has always been a top priority. Now everyone, regardless of their role on the team, can make things and bring their ideas to life. And the most important part is that humans are in control. We are still the ones calling the shots and making sure that the final work we put out into the world meets our high bar. AI just helps us get there faster, bolder, and with more fun toys along the way. Exciting times!
