Incorporating Visuals in Social Media Copy

Explore top LinkedIn content from expert professionals.

Summary

Incorporating visuals in social media copy means adding images, graphics, or videos alongside written posts to catch attention and communicate messages more clearly. This approach helps content stand out in busy feeds, boosts engagement, and makes complex ideas easier for people to understand.

  • Choose relevant imagery: Pick visuals that directly support the message in your post, using photos, illustrations, or videos that match your brand and content style.
  • Use visual metaphors: Turn abstract or technical concepts into simple images or icons that help viewers quickly grasp your main point.
  • Iterate and experiment: Try multiple styles and formats for your visuals, reviewing what works best for audience engagement and adjusting as needed.

OpenAI just added some killer upgrades for image creation in ChatGPT that every marketing team should be using. I've scaled text-based content and marketing programs globally. But adding in the rich visual layer has consistently been a bottleneck. The new visual capabilities in ChatGPT aren't perfect yet by any means but it's wild to think how this will accelerate teams if they embrace it.  Here are some prompts marketing teams should play around with and drop a comment with some use cases you're seeing 👉 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲  Prompt Template: “Create an image of [subject] in a [style], with [mood/lighting], [composition details], and [color scheme].” • Use references: “in the style of Van Gogh / Wes Anderson / Pixar / brutalist architecture”   • Specify camera angles: “top-down,” “close-up,” “cinematic wide shot” • Add atmosphere: “rainy,” “golden hour,” “foggy,” “neon glow” • Mention era/tech level: “retro-futuristic,” “Victorian steampunk,” “cyberpunk 2077 style” 👉 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗹 (𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 / 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲-𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻) Prompt Template: “Design a [#-slide] Instagram carousel on the topic of [educational content title]. Use a [design style] with [color palette], [font vibe], and simple illustrations or icons. Include bold headlines, space for short text, and a clear CTA on the final slide.” Example Customization: “Design a 5-slide Instagram carousel on the topic of ‘How to Stop Overthinking.’ Use a modern, minimal style with muted pastels, rounded sans-serif fonts, and soft line icons.” Follow-up tweak: “Now show me a variation optimized for dark mode.” 👉 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 (𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 / 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 / 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻) Prompt Template: “Create a social media ad image for a product called [product name]. Emphasize [value prop or result] using a [style: luxury / techy / natural] aesthetic, product mockup, and contextual background. Include optional taglines and clean CTA button.” Example: “Create a social ad for ‘GlowUp Serum’ with a clean luxury look, glowing skin, citrus slices, and minimal text saying ‘Brighter skin in 7 days.’” Follow-up tweak: “Generate 3 visual variations for testing different audiences (e.g., Gen Z, moms, professionals).” 👉 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗹 (𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 / 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽) Prompt Template: “Create a [#-slide] LinkedIn carousel that visually supports the story: [hook or title]. Use a [tone: professional / honest / bold] aesthetic, bold slide headers, clean layouts, and minimalist icons or graphs to support the message.” Example: “Create a 6-slide LinkedIn carousel for the story: ‘Why We Killed Our Flagship Product.’ Use bold, clean visuals in navy and white with clear headlines and timeline graphics.” Follow-up tweak: “Suggest a graph style that shows traction drop-off on slide 3.”

𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜-𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 Many people ask me about the images accompanying my LinkedIn posts on patent law and AI. Here's my approach to creating compelling visuals for abstract concepts: • 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲. I primarily use DALL-E for its exceptional ability to create hand-drawn illustrations that convey abstract concepts concretely. Its artistic style aligns perfectly with my content aesthetic. For photorealistic imagery, tools like Midjourney might serve you better. • 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀. When illustrating complex topics like patent eligibility or AI inventorship, I anthropomorphize concepts—depicting AI as a robot or patent challenges as a lawyer-client interaction. For patent protection, I frequently use defense-related imagery such as shields, swords, moats, and castles—visual metaphors that instantly convey the protective nature of patents. If you're struggling for visual metaphors, ask AI text tools (like ChatGPT) for suggestions before generating images. • 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. The perfect image rarely comes on the first try. I typically generate 5-10 variations before finding one that truly captures my message. Evaluate each output critically, provide specific feedback, and don't hesitate to pivot to an entirely different approach if needed. • 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲. I deliberately choose adjectives like "playful" or "cartoonish" in my prompts to ensure the images maintain an accessible, engaging tone—particularly important when discussing technical subjects like patent law and AI innovation. • 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁. Sometimes I write my entire post first, then prompt DALL-E with "Create a playful image that uses a visual metaphor to illustrate the main point of this post" along with the full text. This helps the AI grasp the nuance of my message. These strategies work particularly well for abstract concepts. For more concrete topics, you might need different approaches. What visual challenges do you face with your LinkedIn content? P.S. The initial prompt that I used to create the image accompanying this post was "Create a playful image illustrating a human collaborating with a robot to create an image for use in a LinkedIn post." I then had to iterate about 10 times to come up with the final version. #Marketing #ContentCreation

I spent years working in marketing before transitioning into recruitment. Combining the two is something that I do any chance that I get. One pagers, pdf's, guides, featured positions, landing pages, company overviews, recruiter bios.... Let’s be real—people scroll fast. If your job ads, employer branding, or business outreach aren’t visually appealing, they’re probably getting lost in the noise. I’ve seen firsthand how strong visuals can make a huge difference in attracting candidates and clients. It’s not just about looking pretty—it’s about grabbing attention, building trust, and making an impact. At Tiello, featured position tiles are just one way I work with our internal recruiters to showcase high priority roles. The template is attached to this post. Here’s why visuals should be a non-negotiable part of your recruitment and biz dev strategy: 🎯 First Impressions Count – A sleek job ad, a well-designed LinkedIn post, or a polished careers page can be the difference between someone scrolling past or stopping to learn more. 🎥 Video & Graphics = Higher Engagement – Posts with visuals get way more clicks, shares, and applications than plain text. (I mean, would you rather read a wall of text or scan a quick image?) 💡 Show, Don’t Just Tell – You can say your company has a great culture, but a behind-the-scenes office tour or employee testimonial video shows it in a way that feels real. 📈 Better Performance Across Platforms – Whether it’s social media, email campaigns, or job boards, posts with strong visuals perform better. Period. At the end of the day, recruitment and business development are about making connections—and visuals help you do that faster and more effectively. So, if you’re not already making visuals a key part of your strategy, now’s the time to start! What visuals are you using in your recruiting day to day? Let me know below! 👇 #RecruitmentMarketing #EmployerBranding #TalentAttraction #VisualMarketing #Hiring #BusinessDevelopment

A week ago today, I had the opportunity to speak to a few hundred leaders in Davos about what great content looks like on LinkedIn. ICYMI, here are a few quick-hit tips you can incorporate into your next post: 1️⃣ Ground your post in knowledge or advice you're uniquely qualified to share. This could be insights from a recent industry conference, a timely career lesson, or your perspective on company news. One great question I ask myself as I create: "How will this content help someone feel more productive or more successful?" 2️⃣ Focus less on hashtags and more on your hook. While hashtags still have a place on LinkedIn, your time is far better spent crafting a pithy, scroll-stopping hook. Those first two lines of text—or first few seconds of video—are critical to catching attention and driving engagement. 3️⃣ Include eye-catching visuals—like the photos in this post! Great visuals help stop the scroll. They don’t have to be photos, either. Infographics and short-form vertical videos work well, too. 📹 A quick note on video: Short-form video is one of the most effective ways for leaders to stand out on LinkedIn right now. And it doesn't need to be professionally produced - we saw plenty of leaders at Davos pulling out their smartphones to record quick clips. So, if you haven’t yet, grab your phone, find a bright, quiet space, and turn your next post into a video (and tag me when you publish)!
