Secure Messaging FAQs

What types of messages can I send to my provider in MyChart?

MyChart can be used to send non-urgent messages and questions to your provider, or to send paperwork (like a vaccine card or disability forms) for your provider to review or sign.

Please note that MyChart should never be used for urgent medical situations. If your situation requires immediate attention, call your doctor’s office, or dial 911 if it is an emergency.

What types of messages should I not send to my provider in MyChart?
  • Do not message your provider about urgent, time-sensitive medical issues. Call their office directly or dial 911 if it is an emergency.
  • If you need to speak with your doctor after-hours or over the weekend, call their office to speak with an on-call provider.
  • If you have a new health issue or need to communicate a lot of information, call your provider’s office.
  • To request a prescription renewal, see test results, or schedule or cancel an appointment, use the appropriate sections of MyChart.
If I send a message through MyChart, when can I expect a reply?

Messages are reviewed Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm. You will receive a response in 2-3 business days.

Can I send data, like blood sugar readings, to my provider in MyChart?

Yes — if you monitor your health from home (for example, your blood glucose levels or blood pressure) you can record this data online to share with your provider. Please ask your provider how to set up data sharing in MyChart.

If you have an urgent question or abnormal data to report, please call your provider's office directly or dial 911 if it is an emergency.
