President Donald Trump has fallen in line with his MAGA constituents with his latest remark dismissing Bad Bunny as the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show performer.
Following the announcement of the Puerto Rican artist securing the coveted gig, many conservatives were vocal in their disapproval, with Trump echoing their sentiments in a new interview on NewsMax’s Greg Kelly Reports, via Entertainment Weekly.
“The NFL just chose the Bad Bunny rabbit or whatever his name is,” Kelly told Trump. “This guy, who hates ICE, he doesn’t like you, he accuses everything he doesn’t like of racism.”
“I’ve never heard of him,” Trump responded. “I don’t know who he is… I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment — I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
The “NUEVAYoL” artist, 31, is well aware that conservatives don’t approve of him appearing on such a large stage, coyly addressing the hate during his Oct. 4 appearance on Saturday Night Live. “You might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” Bad Bunny said with a smirk. “I’m very happy, and I think everyone is happy about it. Even Fox News,” he added sarcastically. He also made a point to address his fellow Latinos in their native tongue before switching back from Spanish to English. Check out the monologue below.
While Trump and his supporters are opposed to Benito hitting the stage, he has found support from the general public, particularly Latin and Black communities. After previously welcoming him as a featured artists during her own Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2020, Jennifer Lopez has expressed her excitement for Bad Bunny to headline the gig himself six years later.
When asked by host Craig Melvin of the TODAY show her thoughts on the controversy surrounding his upcoming performance, her initial response was, “Is there controversy? I swear I don’t know.”
“There are a lot of folks who have not been wild about the idea,” Melvin explained. When Lopez asked him to elaborate, he added, “You’d have to ask them. He’s wildly popular, but for a lot of folks, they have said, it should be someone else.”
“But why? I don’t understand that. He’s one of the top artists in the world right now, probably the top,” the actress said. “It could be a lot of different people. That’s the thing. I’m super excited for people to see him. I think they’ll be pleasantly surprised because his music transcends language. It’s amazing what he’s done. He’s done something that a lot of people have never done in their life.” Hear J. Lo speak up for Bad Bunny below.
