Druski is hands down one of the funniest people on the internet, and this week, he may have reached an apex where his success is more polarizing than ever before. His latest whiteface NASCAR skit has generated a lot of backlash due to the depth of his character portrayal and the people he may have deceived and offended.
The 30-year-old comedian’s most recent video is titled “That Guy who is just Proud to be AMERICAN *United States flag emoji*” and features him with his body painted completely white. He also wore blue denim overalls, a cowboy hat, a brown mullet, dyed his facial hair brown, and had an American flag tattooed on his chest.
Throughout the skit, he cheered while at a NASCAR race, drank beer with actual white people, repeatedly sang Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The U.S.A.,” smoked a cigarette with an elderly white woman who sat on his lap, spat on the ground in front of a Black man walking by, interrogated another Black man headeding to the NASCAR event, and got particularly animated while listening to the national anthem. Watch below.
As funny as the skit was, there were some naysayers in the mix. “Those people had no idea this was a black man,” one user wrote. “He could infiltrate the kkk if he wanted.” Some people felt this was offensive to Southern culture and NASCAR fans for highlighting their negative stereotypes.
Theo Von, a known MAGA-aligned comedian and podcaster, felt that this opened the door for him to do a similar skit but in reverse. “Wowwww. Anyone do hair and m/u? hit my dms,” he wrote on X, quoting Druski’s video. “I feel a jheri curl coming on.” A local FOX news channel also covered the reactions to his skit.
The comedian jumped on Instagram on Wednesday evening to respond to the backlash. He posted a video of himself walking through a corporate building while smoking a cigarette, with James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” in the background. Several commenters expressed their support for him, saying emphatic no’s and doubling down on how funny the skit was. Watch his response here.
Time will tell if this negatively impacts the hilarious personality in any way, but there is some precedent here. Earlier this year, he released another skit titled “The WhiteBoy that’s accepted by the Hood” where he painted himself white and dressed in popular brands while exchanging handshakes with Black gang members, freestyling, using Ebonics at dinner with his white parents, and more.
