Two busy parents raising multiple children together already is not the easiest mission, but that journey is intensified even more when both parties are high-profile celebrities. Kim Kardashian is dishing on what co-parenting has really been like with Ye, and she admits it’s been far from “easy.”
During her recent sit-down with Call Her Daddy, the reality TV star-turned entrepreneur was asked several hard-hitting questions that her fans have been dying to know the answers to. When host Alex Cooper asked about the current status between her and her ex-husband, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, she broke down the details from her side.
“It’s not easy. I mean, I raise the kids full-time. They live with me. I welcome a great healthy relationship with my kids and their dad. He knows that. I push for it all the time, but I also protect them when it’s time for that, and it goes in waves and phases,” she began.
Kardashian emphasized that maintaining a paternal presence in their kids’ lives was important to her because of how she feels about her own late father. She went on, “I have the best memories and the best relationship with my dad,” while mentioning Tristan Thompson — the father of her sister Khloe’s kids — is a present dad despite their past challenges. “So I just welcome healthy relationships, but it’s not easy.”
The former couple shares four children: North (12), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (6). The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star reportedly previously considered pursuing sole custody of the children after Ye put North West on a song with Diddy earlier this year.
When asked the last time West saw their kids, Kardashian revealed, “Whenever he’ll call for them and ask. It’s probably been a couple months since we’ve heard from him.” She also explained that the kids are aware their father has a “big life traveling and touring” and that he lives in different countries, so they manage it “really well” because the kids love their current life and routine. Kim says her job as their mom is to help them stick to their routine while remaining healthy and happy.
The SKIMS founder mentioned the only thing that bothers her is the ongoing narrative that she “keeps the kids away” from their father, which she claims she “never” has done. “There’s been so many times I just want to show all these texts, like what are you talking about?… I will always let them see their father… I send them to Saudi Arabia, Italy, Japan, and I’ve never once denied it,” she said.
VIBE has reached out to West’s team for comment.
The West family dynamic has been on public display not solely due to the parents’ celebrity status, but also because of the Graduation rapper’s frequent rants about their divorce and co-parenting journey. He has previously called Kim a liar and accused her of “kidnapping” the kids.
“YOU ARE LYING AND ARE LIARS YALL BASICALLY KIDNAPPED CHICAGO ON HER BIRTHDAY SO SHE COULD REMEMBER HER FATHER NOT BEING THERE SO THERE YALL ALSO THREW A PARTY BEFORE PSALMS BIRTHDAY WHEN I WAS FLYING BACK FROM JAPAN TO BE THERE FOR HIS BIRTHDAY AND THE FIRST I HEARD ABOUT IT WAS SEEING PICS OF THE PARTY ON LINE,” he wrote on X back in 2022.
“ALSO I SHOULD SEE MY CHILDREN 100 % OF THE TIME BUT SINCE THERE’S A SEPARATION IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 50% OF THE TIME YA’LL WOULDN’T HAVE PLAYED WITH DONDA LIKE THAT IN JESUS NAME.”
