Would love to just chat!

I am recently retired and still getting used to being at home all day.  I tried to get a part time job but no success. I would love to chat and get to know people from all over the country.  Maybe you can give me some advice on retirement loneliness!  Rebecca

Hi Besslewis. Yes I too miss the laughter. Most of the guys on my crew started in the union almost on the same week. We spent 33 years working together. Spent more time with them then my family lol.

Same here, Rebecca! I found that CoVID has interfered as I am truly not willing to take the chance; I live in a "senior" community and although I have no pre-existing health issues, I was in the hospital late January/early February due to fall and one of the Therapists had flu; she took one day off and wore mask on return, but with the infection reports being so vague, I feel I need to be overly cautious to not spread if I've been infected but hospital stay prevented symptoms.

Prior to that my plan was to volunteer at faith-based social service center across the street (I no longer have one due to daughters being victims 1-Oct) because I can walk there and so accomplish exercise, caring for others, and supplement my food.

I also volunteer (and hope it will begin again) for "homeless shelter" volunteer opportunity.

You may also want to investigate civic organizations such as advocacy, consumer rights and others.

I'd also recommend checking in with your local AARP office; they provide job postings, volunteer opportunities, and options to prevent loneliness and other issues that make us sad...

Hey there...thanks for responding.  This has really been a weird two or three months.  In all my 67 years I have never experienced anything like this.  Unfortunately, all of this protesting had to start and it's really bring me down.  I remember the same scenario from the 60's.

I too wanted to volunteer but unfortunately, I lost my car when I retired and I'm not comfortable using Uber.  I would love to work in a soup kitchen or something that would make sure people are fed.  I planned on working for four or five more years but because of a new hire at my office I had to leave.  She was younger and we just didn't mesh.  Unfortunately, she had the support of her supervisor and it wasn't a pleasant environment.  It all happened for the better and I'm finally at peace.  Maybe something will come up for me to do for a couple hours a day.

Enjoy your day, Rebecca

I guess just jump into different posts and start commenting that will fill up sometime. I am from Pa. I retired after 18 years at my last Banking job in Del. on disability due to bad health after our youngest daughter was killed. I have 2 other CHD, 6 Gr CHD, and a new Gr-GrDD, and luckily I still have my husband.
There are lots of spots you can get on and chat or just get on and comment. I am on many days, see a few places to drop a comment here and there and get off.
Good luck, I hope you meet lots of new people, they are quite friendly on here.

Hey there, I'm so sorry for your loss.  WOW, you have a large family.  I'm divorced so it's just me in the house, well, and three dogs.  I have two daughters, two grandkids and one great grandaughter.

I'm in GA and boy is it already hot here!  I used to garden all the time but getting older, I can't deal with the sun and heat like I used to.  It's ok...I like being older.

Enjoy your day, Rebecca

I am alone also except for my sweet Dog. I lived on a farm for many years and I do miss gardening. I miss a lot of things that I am unable to do now.

Good afternoon Mildred, it would be nice meeting and getting to know someone to chat with ever so often. I'm a senior person of 89 yrs, and i really don't do much these days. I have numerous grand children that  i correspond regularly which i love. I live in a double house ith one of my sons, who has a dog.. I call him grand dog, and he thinks he  owns me.  Being it's Thanksgiving, i've just finished making cakes and pies earlier for my grand daughters.  Where do you live ( State ) I live in N,Y.. You mentiioned living on a farm for many yrs. My family moved here from Ohio many yrs. ago, and i lived on a farm as well, until  i was 13 yrs. old. Not much good  about that experience that i remember. Being a senior person i also muss a lot of things that i'm not able to do any more.  On that note i won't bore you with to much now, but would love to get to know you and discuss life and all that it entails. If it interests you moving

forward we can also chat  by e/mail. Have a wonderful rest of this Thanksgiving Day.           Mary

Hi Jerome. I'm here. Find this tool a little cumbersome. I wish there was a way for a bunch of folks to get on Zoom or some other tool and speak together.
