About us

What we do might surprise you! AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, social mission organization with a membership of nearly 38 million. Our aim is to disrupt outdated stereotypes about aging, turn goals and dreams into real possibilities, and fight for the issues that matter most to people 50-plus, their families and communities. Our social impact work in health security, financial resilience, and personal fulfillment is at the heart of what we do. With offices in every state plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, we live and work in the communities we serve. We listen to what people need and want, and offer programs, services and trusted information that are directly relevant to them. State offices also work with our national office to amplify our members’ voices at the local and federal levels to help empower people 50 and above to choose how they live and work as they age. From being a force for positive change to producing the nation’s largest-circulation magazine – the full scope of what we do might surprise you! That’s why people who are excited by unique opportunities and galvanized by meaningful challenges come to work at AARP.

“My job is to heal them, to make them feel safe, loved and then find them a good home, if we can.” After adopting a blind cat, Michele Hoffman founded Milo’s Sanctuary in 2004 to protect disabled cats from euthanasia. Today, it has grown into the oldest and largest special-needs cat rescue in the world. Michele has helped save more than 3,000 cats and has built a community of over 600,000 social media followers. Her work has not only transformed the lives of the cats she rescues, but also inspired countless others to volunteer and support animals in shelters. Watch her inspiring story. If you’re looking for part-time work that fits your life and offers meaningful benefits, you’re not alone. According to a recent survey from Indeed Flex, one -third of retirees are considering working between one and three shifts per week of temporary or part-time work. Many of these workers want flexibility without having to give up important perks like health coverage and retirement savings. Companies like the American Red Cross support part-time employees with health care benefits and a 401(k) plan that includes a percentage match for those working at least 20 hours a week. The Home Depot offers part-time employees access to health care, child and elder care, wellness benefits, a 401(k), and tuition reimbursement. At JP Morgan Chase, part-time employees working 20 hours a week or more receive medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus automatic 401(k) enrollment with a percentage match. At our recent AARP Employer Summit, I had the privilege of joining leaders from across industries to discuss one of the most important — yet often overlooked — opportunities of our time: the power of a multigenerational workforce. As people live and work longer, embracing employees of all ages isn’t just a matter of fairness, it’s a smart business strategy. Older workers bring experience, stability and buying power, which strengthen companies and fuel economic growth. By recognizing the value every generation brings to the table, we can build workplaces that are good for people, good for business, and good for the economy. And we can do it while ensuring older Americans are afforded the dignity, opportunity, and support needed to continue contributing and thriving at work and in our communities. #FutureofWork #LongevityEconomy #MultigenerationalWorkforce
